At Marysville's annual swap meet yesterday we got the not unexpected news that the winged Super Stocks are gone from the 2018 program.  Severely diminishing car counts for the last few years since Paul Hawes left as promoter and the Chico  team led by Dennis Gage took over were  the reason.
 It was said every year since that time that the stockers were on thin ice and, as a result, no new cars were built for the highly entertaining class.  A last ditch effort in the '17 season was made to combine the Limited Late Models with their larger tires, 700+ pound weight advantage and more refined suspension with the Super Stocks with little enthusiasm by either group of cars.
  Winged 360 Sprints will, again, be the top class,  the popular high car count but cheaply paid Sport Mods will be back,  Hobby cars will be the only fendered class.  Various other Sprint classes will make appearances with thought being given to yet another "economy" type of Sprint   being looked at.
   Ironically until Mel Hall promoted the joint some 20 years ago the place was a stock car track with very rare appearances by the Sprinters.  We'll miss the place as w have a lot of memories, both good and bad, from running there over the last 30 years.
