Vigna Up in Smoke to Start 2018
01/04/18 at 5:45am
2018 is off to a rough start for Concordís Anthony Vigna. Vigna came into Mondayís Winter Classic with hopes of starting the season off on the right foot, but it became apparent very early that that would not be the case.

The racing portion of the night for Vigna would of course start with the heat race. After first start attempt which saw the 98 of Joey Ridgway fly off track through the pit exit, Anthony would move up a row from his original starting position of 3rd to lead the 2nd Hobby Stock heat race to green. It was clear from the start that Vignaís car was underpowered, as his 307 was struggling to get going on restarts and keep up with the leaders. That combined with a tight handling racecar had Vigna fighting to keep the car in contention, with Vigna ultimately bringing it home 5th out of 8 cars.

It was then on to the Main Event, where the Hobby Stocks would roll off first, with Vigna starting in 8th. The first attempt at a start would be a no go, after a wreck on the backstretch between Haley Gomez and Russell Shearer would bring out the yellow in turn 2. The 2nd start would then go off without a hitch, and Vigna would make a quick pass to move into 7th. The next few laps would see a good 3 car battle between Vigna, Mitch Locicero, and Frank Furtado for 7th, 8th and 9th. This battle would eventually lead to contact between Vigna and the 24 of Locicero, sending Locicero spinning into the infield, and sending Vigna to the rear of the field under caution. Vignaís race would only last a couple of laps after this, as he would lose the motor on lap 9, ending his night early and blowing his second motor in as many seasons. Luckily this isnít the only motor he has, and should be ready whenever his next race is. Things can only go up from here, and you can expect to see Anthony Vigna up front at Antioch Speedway in the very near future.
