Combs Ready to Kick Off 2018 at Perris’s Winter Heat Weekend

(1/8/2018)

After only racing 4 weekends last season, Rancho Cordova’s Josh Combs is getting an early start on the race season by making the trip down this Saturday and Sunday to compete at Perris Auto Speedway’s Winter Heat Weekend. As Combs makes the 450+ mile trek down this weekend, it’ll mark the 2nd time that Combs’s new crate powered 2017 LG2 by Jimmy Owens mod has seen the track in a racing capacity with Combs behind the wheel. The only other time the car has raced in California was last year’s Bud Nationals where fuel issues all weekend derailed any hope of a solid showing.

As mentioned earlier, 2017 was a short season for Josh Combs, making 3 starts in the GRT before making the late season switch to the LG2. The season started with a promising run at the Timmy Post Memorial at Merced, with Combs working his way into the Top 5 before contact with a tractor tire would end his night. Combs would return to Merced the next weekend and pick up a convincing win, finishing 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place. The final race before the car change would come at Ocean Speedway’s Mike Cecil Memorial, where after a rough heat race, Combs started in the last row in the B Main. Combs would quickly move his way through the field, getting up to 3rd before contact with another driver with 3 laps to go would end his night.

With the fuel issues at Bakersfield, Combs knew he had some work to do to get his car ready for this season. A recent test at Marysville on New Year’s day has given Combs plenty of optimism going into the season, with the team making big gains on the car and being cited as a huge success, having Combs “Very very excited to see what this new car holds.” While the plan this year is to race as much as possible, Combs has recently joined Bill McAnally Racing to crew for K&N West Rookie Hailee Deegan, which will limit the amount of racing he does due to all the travelling the team does. When he isn’t with the K&N team though, he plans on racing somewhere, and will have more of an open schedule this year.

Combs would like to thanks all of his sponsors and supporters, including:
California Upholstering, Jay's Mobile Welding & Fabrication, Motion Media Wraps, Motivated Eyewear, Performance Bodies, Truform Racing Products, and Klein Engines.
