The season opener for the group last night at Fallon's Rattlesnake Raceway had 14 cars turn out. The main got on the track about 9:15, a rarity, but still took an hour to run after Mike McMordie did his best to knock down a wall on lap 9. The wall at Fallon consists of two high stacks of very large concrete pieces and aren't the easiest things to move back in position. Sparks' Bill Pearson won in his Uncle B.J.'s well known 84 that has been driven by several guys the last couple of years. Winnemucca's 2017 runnerup in national points for the IMCA Modifieds was the guest driver in Travis Petersen's car and finished 2nd followed by long haul Petaluma racer Mike Learn, Darrick Rauscher and Jesse Gonzalez in 5th. A very crisp desert night made us feel not so bad for missing the night due to family commitments. Gordon Russell, one of the prime money raisers for the $1K to win purses also was unable to make it. The club will run a non points show next weekend, the Billy Geyer Memorial at Siskyou and will get back to points racing the 19th and 20th of May with races at Lovelock andWinnemucca which are tentatively on our schedule.
