$5 Ticket Night At Siskiyou Motor Speedway

Yreka, California...On the heels of the successful Memorial Day Weekend show on Sunday afternoon, Siskiyou Motor Speedway comes back with another great night of racing and family fun. In a show of appreciation to the fans, the track is offering a $5 admission free this Saturday night. Plus, there will be ride alongs for the kids. IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Jefferson Jalopies will be racing this week, and the IMCA Sport Modified drivers will do a Frisbee toss to the fans before the races.

The Mini Stock drivers will likely see some stiff competition from 2015 champion David Steele this week. Steele picked up another win in the Mike Caveye Memorial Race last week. Only reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick was anywhere near him at the checkered flag. Steele has won all three of his starts this season and has currently won eight of the last nine Main Events in which he's started, finishing second in the other race. Nobody in the area is hotter than Steele at the moment.

Yawnick has her sights set on another championship, but two other past champions, Mike Whitaker and Terry Kendrick, are hanging with her in the battle. Kendrick has finished as high as second in the first four races, while Whitaker has a pair of thirds. Yawnick is the only other winner so far this season. Several new competitors are vying to put their names in the winner's column this week, including teen racers Zac McMurray and Darek Alford. There may be another visitor or two from Medford as the track is not running this class this week.

The IMCA Sport Modified championship battle has a different look than people might have expected going into the season. Thus far, there have been four different winners in four races. Rich McCoy is still searching for his first win of the season, but he has two seconds and a third and is the point leader. He's definitely not somebody you'd expect to see go winless during the season. Throughout his career, McCoy has won Main Events in Modifieds, Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Pro 4 cars. He's also a past Mini Stock champion at Southern Oregon Speedway and finished third in Sport Modified points there last season.

The two drivers chasing McCoy are also on a quest to get their first wins. Trevor Tiffee and Ryder Boswell didn't fare as well as McCoy in the Bo Hittson Memorial race last week. While McCoy finished fifth, Boswell and Tiffee ended up watching from the sidelines. DJ Bottoms got a seventh place finish last week, following up on the win he had in his season debut. The reigning champion will be out to get his second win this week. Word is we are close to seeing teen leadfoot Ethan Killingsworth make his division debut after two strong seasons in Mini Stocks.

After working for over a year preparing cars for the new Jefferson Jalopy Association, Karl Bernstein and JJ Smith are about ready to have their first race. The two have completed preparations on the fourth car from their shop. The division has a very unique look to it. It's an Open Wheel race car that almost can be compared to a big version of a Dwarf Car. Bernstein and Smith are hopeful that this class can catch on and help give the fans in Yreka another style of car to enjoy on race night.

It should be a fun night for the family with the $5 admission price and ride alongs for the kids. The weather forecast looks good and the drivers are excited to get back out there and do some racing. The opportunity to watch the future stars of the speedway race their Outlaw Karts on the smaller track on Friday night gives the fans two nights of racing to enjoy. Wauge Wins John Arnberg Memorial,
Elias Wins Bo Hittson Memorial

Yreka, California...May 27...After rains on Friday night and early Saturday morning prevented Siskiyou Motor Speedway from having any races on Saturday night, the track crew worked feverishly to make sure the special Memorial Day event would go on as scheduled on Sunday. The track featured a full program of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks on Sunday afternoon.

Mark Wauge scored an impressive victory in the rapidly paced 38 lap John Arnberg Memorial IMCA Modified Main Event. The race was destined to go without a yellow flag. During the first half of the feature, Wauge battled Kyle Casson. On two different occasions, Casson made the pass to take the lead. However, he had a broken left front suspension part end his race by lap 33.

At that point, Wauge was leading 2016 race winner Ryan McDaniel. Wauge suffered a broken left front suspension issue with two laps to go, but he held a big enough lead to get it to the checkered flag for his second Arnberg victory. The win paid Wauge $1,038. Ryan McDaniel settled for a $750 second ahead of 2017 race winner Nick Trenchard, Albert Gill, Dave Duste Jr., Jeremy Ohlde, Rob Robles, Casson, Jeff Faulkner and Duane Orsburn. Casson and James Welshonse won the eight lap heat races.

Chowchilla long tow visitor Tim Elias picked up the $750 win in the Bo Hittson Memorial Race. 2016 race winner Brian Cooper jumped out to the early lead with Elias taking second from point leader Rich McCoy on lap seven. Elias began pressuring Cooper, and he was finally able to make an inside pass in Turn 4 on the 16th lap for the lead. However, a yellow flag flew for Ryder Boswell in Turn 4 on the 22nd lap.

Cooper regained the lead on the restart, but Elias never gave up. Elias slipped underneath Cooper in Turn 4 on the 29th lap and emerged with the lead that he would take to the checkered flag. Cooper settled for a $500 second ahead of Justin Foux,  Matt Sanders, Doug Franklin, McCoy, Cory Biggs, DJ Bottoms, Trevor Tiffee and Tony Duste. Lloyd Speer, Cooper and Rich McCoy each won eight lap heat races.

David Steele returned, and the 2015 Mini Stock champion won his fifth Mike Caveye Memorial Mini Stock Blowout Race. Steele had to contend with fellow eight lap heat race winner and two-time reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick down the stretch, but he held her off for the $404 victory. Mike Whitaker was a solid third ahead of Terry Kendrick, Hunter Magnan, Darek Alford, Jason Frost, Michael McLeod and Zac McMurray.

Racing will return next Saturday night with a special $5 front gate entry fee for the fans. Racers will also offer kids free rides.
