Forsberg, Cooper Win Silver Dollar Speedway Features

Chico, CA...August 3...Reigning champion Andy Forsberg picked up the win in the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. It was his fourth win of the season. Forsberg led most of the way for the win, but Tanner Thorson kept the pressure on down the stretch with a close second place finish. A red flag on lap 24 meant there would be a one lap shootout to the finish, but Forsberg managed to keep Thorson behind him on the final lap for the satisfying victory. Incoming point leader Mason Moore grabbed the third place finish ahead of RC Smith, Cody Lamar, Shawn Conde, Jason York, Brent Bjork, Chelsea Blevins and Lucas Ashe. Forsberg also set the quickest time in qualifying with a lap of 11.687, beating the 11.731 of Nathan Rolfe. Conde and Moore won the eight lap heat races. The battle at the top of the points between Moore and Forsberg should remain close as Moore held a two point advantage going into the night. Kalib Henry was only four points back in third, but he didn't take a checkered flag in the Main Event and ended up 14th.

Point leader Brian Cooper added to his advantage with his fourth 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event win of the season. Reigning Street Stock champion Phil Marino has been running strong lately, and he provided the pressure in the winning laps. However, Cooper was just a bit quicker in victory. Reigning Placerville Limited Late Model champion Matt Micheli outran Tyler Rodgers for the third place finish as Jake Van Tol, Andrew Peckham, Mike Ficklin, Matt Sanders, Isaac Sanders and Richard Vanderploeg completed the Top 10 at the checkered flag, all on the lead lap. Mike Merritt won a close race with Rodgers for the first heat race victory, and Ficklin outran Cooper in another close eight lap race.

Brent Lawrence won another good race with Travis Moore for the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event win. It was the first victory of the season for Lawrence, but Moore made him work for it. Moore was subbing for Phil Marino in the #28m car. Clinton Earl was a solid third ahead of Ken Micheli, Leif Berglund and final lead lap finisher Richard Workman. Gary Newman, Fritz Zanker, point leader Corey Hall and Michael Helwig rounded out the Top 10. Lawrence also outdueled Hall to win his eight lap heat race. Newman won another good battle with Moore to win his first heat of the season.

Reigning champion Kyle Allen returned and would pick up his third 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event victory. Colin Ferguson was out to try and get his first win of the season and stayed close in the battle, but Allen would prevail at the checkered flag. Incoming point leader Jeremy Langenderfer just managed to beat Jim Brookshire back to the checkered flag for the third place finish. James West and Earl Adams we're close behind in the battle for third as they settled for 5th and 6th place finishes, respectively. Mel Byers, Shannon Collins and Richard Warf completed the finishing order. Allen won the eight lap heat race.

The next race on the calendar is the annual Tyler Wolf Classic on August 17th. The Winged 410 Sprint Cars will be competing along with Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Wingless Spec Sprints and the California Hardtop Association.
