The Carolina Clash readies for the newly configured Cleveland County Speedway on May 7th

By: Alex Cummings
Wingate, NC. April 28, 2010. The stars of the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series are gearing up for their return to the newly configured Cleveland County Speedway in Lawndale, NC next Friday, May 7th. Tami Mullis, Cleveland County’s promoter said “We are excited about the upcoming Carolina Clash race at CCS. The facilities have changed quite a bit since last year with the new configuration in turn’s 1 & 2 with the new track exit on the outside of the turn, to the new track entrance on the outside of turn 3, to even the pits being moved to the hill on the backstretch”. With the new configuration comes a new track record holder since the track has been changed.

Last season saw Jonathan Davenport set a blazing fast lap of 17.931 around the famed high banked half mile speedway. Jeff Smith was a close second with a time of 17.934. On the drop of the green it was the 18m of Jeff Smith taking the lead from the outside starting position and he never looked back leading from flag to flag in route to the win. Also in qualifying was the 50 of Larry Mcdaniels scary ride in turn 2 when he climbed up and over the wall, Larry walked away from the incident but wasn’t able to continue. When the Carolina Clash comes to CCS, you can expect the unexpected.

So far this season, Dean Bowen is standing atop the point standings with two wins already to his credit in just 3 races. Dean currently has an 18 point lead over 2nd place Dennis Franklin. Dean has been on a tear so far this year and will be fast yet again at Cleveland County. Also making the trip will be Jeff Smith, Chris Ferguson, Ricky Weeks, Jay Sessoms, Tim Allen, David Taylor, Justin Labonte, Donald Bradsher, and many more.

Who will take home the $4,000 winner’s check and who will be the new track record holder for the 2010 season at Cleveland County? You will have to be there to see for yourself as this race will be one for the ages at the high banked, half mile in Lawndale, NC.

Also on tap for the nights activities will be the weekly divisions at CCS super stock 8 paying $400 to win, pure stock 8 paying $300 to win, stock 4 paying $300 to win, extreme 4 paying $200 to win, and young guns paying $150 to win. Extra money will be distributed to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in all divisions. Pit gates open at 4pm and grandstands open at 5pm with pit admission being set at $30 and grandstand admission set at $20 with children 10 and under FREE. Cleveland County will also be holding an open practice session, Thursday night, May 6th for any drives interested in testing out the newly configured speedway. The gates will open at 5pm on Thursday for practice session.

The Carolina Clash would like to thank the following sponsors for their contributions to the series: American Race Tires, Heintz Brothers Performance, Dirt Trax Motorsports, Starrette Trucking, TRT Trailer Sales, Performance Tee’s, Dunn-Benson Ford, Dunn-Benson Racing Supply, Dirt Wrap, Mike’s Custom Tanks, Sisco Fire & Safety, NASCAR Technical Institute, Victory Lane Karting, VP Racing Fuels, Comp Cams, and Firethorn Mark
