Although only one West Region event got through the weather, there were five races that were completed in the East Region. There were three first-time winners, and three multiple winners. “Dr. Dirt” Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS picked up his second win of the season in the only NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region event held on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL driving the TJC Mortgage/Maximum Signs and Graphics Mastersbilt. Paul Walters of Valley, AL posted his first-ever dirt late model win on Friday night driving the Gary Davis Construction Rocket in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. The other two East Region first-time winners were Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL in the United Bank GRT on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA in the Darda Tire GRT at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA on Saturday night. Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL grabbed his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region win of the season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL driving the Bennett Logging Rocket, and Tim Staples of Pell City, AL took his second straight East Region win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Family Nissan Rocket. NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region rainouts were at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR on Friday night, and Saturday night events at A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. East Region rainouts on Saturday night were at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN and at Shelby County Speedway in Wilsonville, AL. 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA did not report their Saturday night results. The defending and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS continues to lead the West Region standings with 277 points in the Boland Performance Rocket, but Justin McRee of Cuba, AL moved up to the second spot with 241 points driving the Century Carriers Trak-Star. Keeton has competed in six races, while McRee has four starts. Shay Knight of Ethelsville, MS moved up to the third spot in the West Region standings with 217 points in four starts driving the Dunn’s Autos Mastersbilt. Jamey Smith of Purvis, MS is fourth with 215 points in five starts in the 4th Street Tattoo GRT. Stokes is now tied for the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with Cliff Williams of Star, MS in the Ware Construction Trak-Star. Both drivers have 199 points in three starts. Jay Burchfield of Columbus, MS in the Burchfield’s Body Shop Mastersbilt is seventh in the West Region standings with 195 points in three starts, and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is eighth in the Billy Riels Racing GRT with 193 points in three starts. “Chargin” Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL is ninth with 186 points in three starts driving the Century Carriers Mastersbilt, and Chad McCool of Millport, AL in the M&M Logging Mastersbilt rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 162 points in three starts. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL remains the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point leader after posting his sixth and seventh top five finish of the season over the weekend driving the Edge’s Gas Mastersbilt. The 16-year-old driver has 320 points in a series leading seven starts. Darda’s win moved him up to the second spot in the East Region standings with 229 points in five starts. Stephens is third with 223 points in five starts, and Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL is fourth with 192 points in four starts driving the D&K Truck Service GRT. Staples climbed up into the fifth spot in the East Region standings with 190 points in four starts. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA in the Turner Excavating DWB and the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL in the Martin Racing Barry Wright are tied for the sixth spot in the East Region standings with 188 points apiece. Turner has three starts, and Martin has four starts. Maher is eighth in the East Region standings with 184 points in four starts, while a pair of Newnan, GA drivers, Craig Scott in the Base Fuel GRT and Parrish Duncan are tied for the ninth spot with 181 points. Scott has five starts and Duncan has four starts.
