Volunteer Racing Series makes tire/weight rule amendments before next events

HARRIMAN, TN (May 17, 2010)-Officials with the Volunteer Racing Series have made some adjustments/amendments to the 2010 Rule Book that will be in effect immediately concerning tires and weights.

In regards to tires and durometer readings, the Rule Book will now read this: If a driver fails a durometer inspection before Time Trials, that driver may be permitted to start on the tail of an assigned Heat Race and not Qualify. If that driver fails Heat Race durometer inspection, that driver may be permitted to start the tail end of an assigned B-Main event and not run a Heat Race. If that driver fails the B-Main durometer pre-race inspection that driver will be finished for the night and if a driver fails the A-Main pre-race durometer inspection that driver will start on the tail of the A-Main. If any tire is pulled (whether it’s a driver from Qualifying, Heat Races, B-Mains or the Feature event) for sample(s) to be sent to the Lab, then the winnings will be held by the track and upon verification by VRS that the tire(s) is legal, the money will be sent to that driver.

Technical Director Archie Weisgarber went on to say ‘We want to re-assure all competitors that they will NOT be competing against chemically altered tires and that everyone will be on a equal playing field.’

Effective Immediately, VRS Technical Director Archie Wesigarber will be taking random tire samples at each event that will be sent off to a certified lab for testing, if that driver or drivers fail the tire test, the penalty will be as follows:

First Offense:
-$500 fine for driver.
-$250 fine for crew chief.
-150 point deduction.
-Forfeit and winnings from event that chemically altered tire occurred in.

Second Offense:
-$1,000 fine for driver.
-$500 fine for crew chief.
-Two (2) race suspension from VRS sanctioned events.
-250 point deduction.
-Forfeit and winnings from event that chemically altered tire occurred in.

In regards to weights, the following amendment has been made to the WEIGHT section of the Rule Book: After each race, whether it be a Heat, B-Main, or A-Main, an additional weight allowance will be given at the rate of 1 lb. (one) per lap for fuel burn-off, 10 laps=10 lbs.; 40 laps=40 lbs., etc. Allowance will also be given for excessive amount of laps ran under caution at the discretion of the Series Director.

'I felt we had a few issues with some of our rules after the first race, and I also felt that they HAD to be corrected before the next event so we made the following changes to keep the competition fair amongst the drivers, the best we could,' stated Series Director Chris Tilley.

In a release dated early April 2010, the Volunteer Racing Series announced that it would be allowing drivers to pay memberships to be eligible for contingencies, points fund monies, and series provisionals. The series announced that drivers would have until the second (2nd) race to sign up to become a member and at the second race that would be the cut-off date, well the VRS will NOW allow drivers until the third (3rd) race to pay their memberships and also to sign-up for Rookie of the Year, which is the May 29th date at North Georgia.

The next VRS Late Model events will be a double-header of $3,000 to win / $250 to start events beginning on Friday May 28th at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, GA then on Saturday Night May 29th at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA.
