The stars of the Carolina Clash and Volunteer Racing Series are gearing up and getting ready for the always smooth and fast, high banked Wythe Raceway which is located in Rural Retreat, VA. The Carolina Clash will be co-sanctioning the race with the Volunteer Racing Series which will be a 50 lap feature event on Saturday, August 7 paying $5,000 to win and $400 to start.

The Carolina Clash will be making its first appearance at the superspeedway this season. Last year saw a total of three races run with an average car count of 26 cars. The first race was held at the end of June which saw Dennis Franklin setting fast time and Jeff Smith picking up his second win of the season. The second race was held in early August with Petey Ivey setting fast time and also bringing home the win. The third race was held in September with Dennis Franklin yet again setting fast time but this time he was also able to walk away with the win.

Dennis Franklin also has the best average finish of 2.33 from last season at Wythe. It’s a sure bet, that when Franklin is in the house, he’ll be contending for the win at Wythe which is great news for the current points leader who is looking to extend his lead over second place Ricky Weeks who’s looking for his 6th Carolina Clash title.

Sitting third in points is Rookie of the Year contender Dean Bowen. Bowen currently trails Franklin by just 65 points but with a race at Fayetteville this Saturday, July 31 for the Carolina Clash, those points could be even closer heading into Wythe. Fourth is Rookie of the Year contender Jay Sessoms and rounding out the top 5 is Chris Ferguson. Sessoms and Ferguson are separated by just 31 points.

The Volunteer Racing Series points have the 22 of Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN showing the way with the 0 of Ross White following in a close second. The 201 of Billy Ogle Jr. is currently running in third with the 5 of Ronnie Johnson in fourth and the of 73 Ray Jarnigan rounds out your top 5 in points.

Comp Cams will be the feature winner sponsor, awarding the feature winner a $100 gift certificate. Safety Kleen who will be awarding the Safety Kleen Hard Charger of the Race Award which will be a prize pack consisting of various products from Safety Kleen. R2C Performance will be heat race sponsor, awarding each heat race winner with a gift certificate towards a purchase at R2C Performance. Shafer Enterprises Cool Shirts will be awarding a gift certificate to the 5th place finisher in the feature event toward a purchase at Cool Shirts.
