FASTRAK NORTHEAST LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES HEADS EAST FOR A BUSY WEEKEND AT DOG HOLLOW & HESSTON SPEEDWAYS

By Mike Leone
Pulaski, PA…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is geared up for a two-race weekend with the only appearance of the season at Dog Hollow Speedway on Friday night and the inaugural appearance at Hesston Speedway on Saturday night. The $1,200 to-win events will mark race #12 and 13 on the 20-event Touring slate. The weather is looking great for all weekend.

The FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series will begin their trek east at Jim and Sharon Michny’s Dog Hollow Speedway located just east of Indiana, Pa. in Strongstown. Dog Hollow was one of the four original FASTRAK weekly member tracks when the Northeast Region debuted in 2007. Dog Hollow has hosted four Touring Series events over the past three season with Bobby Powell, Alan Dellinger, Dick Barton, and Tommy Snyder, Jr. all victorious. Ironically, none of those four drivers are expected to be in action come Friday so a new winner should emerge.

“Dog Hollow has been a very strong supporter of FASTRAK since day one,” stated Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “We always look forward to going to Dog Hollow. The Michnys have worked hard to build the class from the ground up and there’s always a strong field of competitors on hand for the Touring events there.”

Saturday’s event will take the cars and stars of the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series a little further east to Hesston Speedway. Hesston is in its first year of weekly FASTRAK-sanctioned competition. Last month they held a $1,000 to-win event won by Mike Pegher, Jr. Pegher may have an advantage on Saturday for the track’s richest FASTRAK event ever. Hesston has also put up two bonuses with $75 going to the furthest traveler and $75 for the best appearing crew!

“We have to thank Dusty Hertzler for giving FASTRAK a chance at Hesston,” expressed Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “He went out on limb and brought the class in and this should help the growth of FASTRAK in central Pennsylvania. We had a really good Touring show in June at Central PA Speedway that showcased the caliber of racing FASTRAK provides to fans in central Pa. Hopefully we’ll have another good one on Saturday. It’s nice they’ve put up some bonus money as an added incentive for teams to travel.”

Two drivers looking forward to the weekend are Bryan Force and Tim Snare, Jr.. Force of Indiana, Pa. has two career wins at Dog Hollow and three this season at Hesston. Force is coming off a great weekend where he finished a career best Touring finish of sixth last Thursday at Sharon, was third at Dog Hollow, and a career best Tri-City finish of second on Sunday. Force has also climbed into the top 10 in Touring points for the first time ever in ninth.

Snare meanwhile lives not far from Hesston in Huntingdon, Pa. Snare has won two of the last three events at Dog Hollow and finished second in the other. He’s competed in all four events at Hesston with a runner-up as his best finish. Snare only has one career Touring start and that came at Central Pa. where he was credited with 19th.

With the second half of the season now well underway, there have been eight different winners in 11 events. A total of 138 different drivers have competed to date with the average car count at 34.

Max Blair enters the weekend not only leading the Northeast Touring Series, but also the National Weekly Series points looking to pull off the double like he did in 2008. The Centerville, Pa. 20-year-old has victories at Tyler County (WV) and Expo (OH) to date and has a commanding 50-point lead on nemesis Mike Pegher, Jr., who is fresh off a $5,000 win last Saturday at Eldora Speedway- his second National FASTRAK win in July.

Justin Kreider of Linesville, Pa. is the leader in the new “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series. If 30 or more cars are present, a bonus non-qualifier event is run. Points are being kept with a season ending mini point fund for these racers.

There have been 45 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 21 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series. Blair currently sits atop the all-time win list at seven followed by Pegher with six, Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and Davis Scott with four, Alan Dellinger with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Blose, Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, and Gary Knollinger with one victory.
