BIG 2-DAY FASTRAK WEEKEND AT ROARIN KNOB; NORTHEAST TOURING SERIES FINALE FRIDAY & NIGHT 2 OF THE GRAND NATIONALS SATURDAY

By Mike Leone
Markleysburg, PA…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Models will have a busy upcoming weekend as the fourth season concludes this Friday and Saturday, October 8 and 9 at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. On Friday night, the Northeast Touring Series will wrap up their 2010 season with race #20 of 20 and then on Saturday, Night 2 of the Grand Nationals for the Northeast will take place. Both events are part of the track’s inaugural “Spectacular Fall Fest”. The rain date is Sunday.

Friday’s event will be a complete program of heat races, B main(s), and a 25-lap feature paying $1,200 to-win. This event will be open to ALL competitors. Bobby Powell won last year’s Touring Series event and Mike Pegher, Jr. was this year’s winner back on June 26. The night will conclude with the track’s September 11 FASTRAK make-up feature.

Then on Saturday, Night 2 of the FASTRAK Grand Nationals for the Northeast Region will take place. The night will begin with one-lap qualifying followed by heat races, B main(s), and a 30-lap feature paying $1,500 to-win. This event will be open ONLY to the 70+ FASTRAK member racers, who competed in 12 or more events.

FASTRAK Northeast would like to thank the following sponsors of Night 2 of the Grand Nationals: Brooks Automotive (Connellsville, PA), Dave Poske’s Performance Parts (Parkersburg, WV), High Gear Speed Shop (Hopwood, PA), Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic (Finksburg, MD), Hoosier Tire Racing Corp. (Lakeville, IN), and VPFuels.com.

“First off we have to thank track owner Rick Jones for making this weekend happen,” explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “He was gracious enough to rearrange the format of his program so the Northeast could have a stand-alone Night 2 for the Grand Nationals and still hold the Northeast Touring Series finale. In his first year of ownership at the track, Rick has been a big proponent of FASTRAK and the racers have rewarded him with one of the highest FASTRAK weekly car counts in the country. Then I’d be remised if I didn’t mention the above sponsors that stepped up on late notice with the additional funding to make this all come together. This weekend’s weather is looking beautiful and we hope as many FASTRAK racers as possible can come out and support this great event!”

Night 1 of the FASTRAK Grand Nationals for the Northeast kicked off last Saturday at a rainy Mercer Raceway Park where Max Blair topped a 32-car field. The Centerville, Pa. driver is now tied atop the Grand National standings, which will award $30,000 to the top point getter following the October 23 event at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The top 24 point men will take home part of the huge point fund and racers outside of the top 24 in points will have the ability to compete in a $1,200 to-win event!

The 2010 Northeast Touring Series has been a very competitive one with 12 different winners in 19 races! Will there be a 13th different one on Friday? Blair and Pegher lead the way with four wins a piece; however, five of the last nine races have produced first time! Blair has already clinched his second Northeast Touring Series championship in three seasons, while Pegher simply needs to show-up to nail down a career best runner-up placing. The battle is on for third through fifth as West Virginia’s Gary Knollinger leads Butch Lambert by just one point and Josh Holtgraver by only 14. The top 15 drivers in points will receive point fund monies.

Justin Kreider continues to lead the new “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series. The Linesville, Pa. driver leads Jason Genco by 18 points. Winners of these events this season include Genco (2), Butch Lambert (1), Dan Karalagas (1), and Pegher (1). Friday’s non-qualifier program will be contested on Saturday night.

There have been 53 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 25 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series meaning nearly a new winner nearly every other event. Blair leads Pegher nine to seven followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and David Scott with four, Alan Dellinger & Steve Dixon with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Josh Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Joe Martin, Dusty Hamrick, and Bud Watson with one victory.
