Title: Second season for Fastrak MOV Tour To Kick Off on April 16th Post by LMR on 02/25/11 at 1:51pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 25, 2011 SECOND SEASON FOR FASTRAK MID-OHIO VALLEY TOURING SERIES TO KICK OFF APRIL 16 AT WV’S TYLER COUNTY SPEEDWAY By Mike Leone (Pulaski, PA)…After debuting in 2010, the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Late Model Touring Series is set for season number two. The kickoff event will be held once again at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia on Saturday, April 16. The MOV Touring Series is also sponsored by new Northeast Touring Series sponsor Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC. With the increased growth of FASTRAK in and around the West Virginia area, a second Touring Series under the Northeast umbrella was created. The MOV Touring Series gave these racers the opportunity to compete in their own Touring Series closer to home. The late Gary Knollinger, Jr. will go down as the inaugural champion. The Wheeling, West Virginia native competed in all of the Northeast and MOV events and also finished fourth in the Northeast points. Knollinger was a champion on and off the speedway and will certainly never be forgotten. The top 10 drivers in the 2010 MOV points received cash and hardware at the awards banquet and dinner at Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh. One year ago, the opening Tyler County event set an all-time Northeast record with an astounding 53 cars on hand! That record still stands today, and in fact is one of the highest car counts ever achieved in FASTRAK-sanctioned event anywhere. Tyler County will host a total of four co-sanctioned events with the Northeast along with their first ever stand-alone MOV show on September 24-25. All of the events will pay a minimum of $1,500 with the “Black Diamond” event again carrying a hefty $3,000 to-win purse on Friday, September 2. A lot of excitement is in the air with the announcement that West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV will be a 4/10-mile oval in 2011. With the reduction from its former 5/8-mile size, a lot more local support is expected from racers that are used to the bullrings in the MOV area. WVMS will host two co-sanctioned events with the Northeast on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, August 6. The June date is the night before Tyler County’s event giving racers two big back-to-back shows, while the Saturday date in August will give FASTRAK WV racers the opportunity to race with Tyler County closed due to the fair. “We have to really thank Tyler County and West Virginia Motor Speedway for stepping up and keeping the MOV alive,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “Tyler County is hosting a record number of Touring events in 2011, and with West Virginia reconfiguring their track to 4/10-mile, I think this will really improve the car counts there. We still would like to add additional shows at other venues to make this bigger and better.” The MOV has a strong group of young racers that holds its own against the best from the Northeast time and time again. Last year’s runner-up Kyle Thomas is set for a run at the title. The Pennsboro, WV racer was the Tyler County track champion last year. Dusty Hamrick ran a limited schedule in 2010, but surprised everyone when he came from 17th to win the $3,000 at Tyler County over Labor Day Weekend and is expected to contend for the title. Former motocross racer Shane Hitt was impressive last season and is loaded for bear in 2011 with a new Warrior car. In fact, Hitt is already down in Florida competing. Some of the recognizable names that are expected to contend in the MOV include K.C. Burdette, Joel Prosser, Derek Doll, Daniel Hill, Aaron Barley, Shawn Jett, Freddie Carpenter, Chris Meadows, Chad Green, Joe Loudin, John Watson, Jacob Lash, Danny Thomas, Derek Rogers, and others. A new program in the Northeast, which will also encompass is the MOV is the inaugural “Futures Cup” program. FASTRAK member drivers in the Northeast and MOV that are 19 years old or younger and do not have more than one “full” season of prior FASTRAK competition will be eligible for this program. Those who have competed in Super Late Models, Big-Block Modifieds, or Sprint Cars will be ineligible. A full season is considered eight races or more. The program will look at racers’ best 15 finishes identical to the City Chevrolet National Weekly Series then will give racers two opportunities to add additional points on to their scores. A Stand-alone race for these racers will take place at a location to be announced in the Northeast and MOV with a championship event at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Friday, October 7. The top 10 racers in points will receive cash and prizes.
