NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR APRIL 4

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week one of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season is in the books and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS used bonus points to grab the point lead in the West Region, while two drivers, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL used wins to tie for the point lead in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region.

Lee drove his Billy Riels Racing GRT to an eighth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS to earn 43 points, and then he traveled to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event where he earned another 25 bonus points to total 68 points for the weekend.

Martin, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion, drove the Martin Racing Special to victory on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to share the point lead at 50 points with Ogletree, who drove the Northeast Alabama Audiology Special to a win on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS, Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, and Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL all scored 50-points wins and represent a three-way tie for the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings.

Williams drove the Ware Construction Trak-Star to victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, Shaw took the win on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star, and McRee drove his Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star to top a 21-car field at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS on Saturday night.

Three drivers used second-place finishes in Week 1 to tie for the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. Randy Walters, Billy Tedford, and Mike Boland of Cuba, AL all have 49 points. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, Mark Stokes of Steens, MS, and Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS are tied for the eighth spot with 48 points apiece.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 1 action, 15-year-old Chandler Petty of Austin, AR drove the Whistle Stop Barbeque Rocket to a 40-point win on Saturday night at Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR. Grant Box took a 40-point win on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR.

Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR and at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO were rained out.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL and Randy Hester of Columbus, GA each had second-place finishes to tie for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 49 points. Ryan King of Anniston, AL and Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA had third-place finishes in Week 1 to tie for the fifth spot in the OMG East Region standings with 48 points apiece.

Lee Burdett of Hueytown, AL and Thomas Lewis of Hamilton, GA had fourth-place finishes to tie for the seventh spot in the OMG East Region standings with 47 points apiece. Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Doug Stevens of Griffin, GA posted 46-point fifth-place finishes in Week 1 action to tie for the ninth spot in the OMG East Region standings.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region action, Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL drove the United Bank GRT to a 40-point win on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. Friday night OMG East Region action at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL was rained out.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance in Cuba, AL took the early lead in the 2011 standings with wins by Williams, Shaw, and McRee.

Three-time champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR had a win with Maher to tie Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV, who had a win with Petty, to tie for the second spot. Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN, and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
