Just under 100 cars appeared at the Independence Motor Speedway for opening night

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 7) - Tyler Bruening took the victory in the IMCA Late Models. After a rough start Jon Passick and Bruening began to battle for the lead. Bruening took over with Travis Smock and Darren Ackerman following. The cars began to go single file as Bruening pulled away. Bruening took home the win with Smock, Dirk Hamilton and Ackerman following.

Mike Burbridge took home the trophy in the IMCA Modifieds. Cautions kept the field bunched early as Patrick Flannagan and Burbridge challenged one another for the top spot. Flannagan worked the high line with Burbridge hugging the bottom. Behind them Jerry King had Troy Cordes and Darin Duffy in pursuit. By the halfway point Flannagan had the top spot but Burbridge took advantage of the restart as he powered his way to the lead. Burbridge held on for the win with King, Flannagan, and Adam Johnson following.

Tyler Droste clinched the first win of the season in the IMCA SportMods. Droste used the middle groove to power to front from Lucas Lundry. Lundry and Droste began to pull away from the field with Ray Lundry in pursuit. By lap six Danny Dvorak who started towards the rear of the field had made his way into the top ten. Droste used the high line and into the lead as he pulled away from both Lucas and Ray. Droste scored the victory with Lucas, Ray and Kip Siems following.

The IMCA Hobby Stocks found Scott Pippert in victory lane. Pippert made his move within the first five laps and never looked back as he powered his way away from the rest of the field. Vince Buchholz and Justin Lichty were side-by-side for second as the first caution approached. Pippert took off at the restart as Buchholz now contended with Quinton Miller for the second position. August Bach used the low groove to move into third. Pippert and Vince checked out from the rest of the field as the laps wound down. Pippert took the checkers first with, Buchholz and Bach following.

Sean Johnson found his way to victory lane in the IMCA Stock Cars. Johnson took the early lead with Tom Schmitt, Dave Stricker and Justin Temeyer following. Johnson began to pull away as Temeyer moved into the third spot. By lap six Schmitt and Temeyer were chasing down Johnson. Temeyer had moved behind Johnson as the laps wound down. The battle took place Johnson running the bottom with Temeyer working the higher line. Johnson was able to hold onto the lead with Temeyer, Stricker and Jarrod Weepie following.
