Free Admission for All Residents of Dover and East Berlin at SSP on Saturday, May 14
Friday Night Racing at SSP Outback Track on May 13

Newberrytown, PA (May 11, 2011) – This Saturday night, May 14 will be the next "Hometown Heroes" Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. Racing action next Saturday night will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors and Legends Cars.

The Hometown Heroes program on Saturday, May 14 will recognize all SSP drivers from Dover and East Berlin. Before the racing action begins, the drivers from these towns will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans at the front gate of the speedway. The drivers will also be interviewed during the night's racing program. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver's hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

Bob Bolles, the Senior Tech Editor of Circle Track Magazine, will be visiting the speedway as a part of the 2011 AMSOIL Great American Circle Track Tour. . Last year Circle Track embarked on a 25 racetrack tour of the southeastern United States. This year’s tour focuses on tracks in the northeast. Bolles will bring the Circle Track Magazine motorhome to tracks to talk with racers and fans and learn about the track's history.

Also, Street Stock driver Scott Thunberg, will attempt to start his 100th consecutive Street Stock feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park under the current ownership of Todd and Rhonda Fisher. From July 20, 1996 through May 7, 2011 Scott Thunberg has competed in 160 consecutive regular season Street Stock races at Susquehanna Speedway under various promoters. Throughout his racing career, Thunberg has competed in 216 out of 222 regular season Street Stock events at Susky since 1993. Since 1993 when Thunberg began racing at Susquehanna Speedway there have been 14 years with seven or more regular season races. During those years, he has won 2 track championships (1998 & 2009), finished runner-up 3 times (1997, 1999, and 2010), had 8 top five seasons, and 14 top ten seasons. Among Thunberg's 24 career feature wins, 12 of them have been at SSP.

On Saturday night, racing action begins at 6:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by qualifying heat races, consolation races and feature events.

General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free.

Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.

The popular "Repeat Fan Discount" program will continue at SSP in 2011 for the eighth straight season. This is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

The SSP Outback Track will be back in action on Friday night, May 13. Racing on the 1/9 mile track includes Quarter Midgets, Karts, Adult Speedcars and lawnmowers. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Last Saturday night, Fawn Grove’s Chris Knopp won the 25-lap Late Model feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. Doug Bennett of Chambersburg claimed his second Street Stock feature event of the season. Thomasville’s Mike Zeigler Jr. claimed his second straight Xtreme Stock Car main event. Jeff Svendsen of Etters won the Road Warrior feature. In only his sixth career start in Legends Car, East Berlin’s Bob Stough picked up the victory. Sherry Kitner of York Haven won the special Women on Wheel Mini Van Feature.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
