J. Layne WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway, which is set to return to action this season after being closed for five years, is proud to release it’s 2011 schedule. The 2011 schedule will consist of 15 events with three different touring series coming to the track. The 2011 season will unofficially get underway on Saturday, June 11th with a Test N’ Tune day. This day will provide race fans a chance to come and see the renovated facility free of charge and give race teams a chance to make laps on the track. The season officially gets underway on Friday, June 17th with the Grand Reopening races featuring Late Models-$2,500 to win, Modifieds-$800 to win, Bombers-$400 to win, and Sport Mods. The 2011 season will be highlighted by three appearances from the STARS MDRL Late Model tour. The first appearance will be on Monday, July 4th with the running of the “Southern 50” paying $5,000 to win. Modifieds will also have a special event that night as they will race for $1,000 to win. SOS officials hope to build the Southern 50 into an annual July 4th weekend event. The second STARS MDRL appearance will be on Friday, August 5th with the $5,000 to win “7th Annual Iron-Man Classic”. This will be the first time that the Iron-Man Classic event has ever moved outside of the state of Kentucky. Previous winners of the annual event include Jackie Boggs, Chris Combs, Don O’Neal, and Josh McGuire. Modifieds, Bombers, and Sport Mods will also be on the card on August 5th. The final STARS MDRL event of the season will be the tours season finale on Saturday, October 8th with the “Southern Classic”. The event will pay $4,000 to the winner of the 40 lap feature event. The 2011 STARS champion will receive a guaranteed starting position in Carl Short’s Dirt Track World Championship which is scheduled to take place the following week at the K-C Raceway. SOS officials hope to build the Southern Classic into an annual fall event at the track. In addition to appearances from the STARS MDRL Late Model Series, the ADRA Late Model Series and the OVSCA Sprint Car Series are also scheduled to make stops at the track in 2011. The ADRA will invade SOS on Friday, July 22nd with the “Summer Sizzler” that will pay $2,500 to the winner of the Late Model feature event. The OVSCA 410 Sprints will take to the 4/10ths mile track on Friday, August 12th with the “H&L Motorsports 25” and on Saturday, October 1st for their season finale. Two “$5 Family Fun Nights” are also on the 2011 SOS schedule. $5 Family Fun Nights, which feature Steel Block Late Models, Modifieds, Bombers, Sport Mods, and a 100 lap Enduro at a $5 general admission ticket price, will take place on Friday, July 8th and on Saturday, September 10th. These events are strategically placed on the schedule to give race fans relief at the ticket gate on weekends following big holiday weekend events. A very special night will take place on Friday, July 29th with “Hall of Fame Night”. On this night the first three members of the inaugural Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame will be inducted. Each season, three new members will be inducted into the SOS Hall of Fame on Hall of Fame Night. Several themed nights are also on the schedule. June 24th will be Kids Night where all kids 12 and under are admitted free. June 15th will be Late Model Night which will feature Super Late Models and Steel Block Late Models. Meet the Drivers Night will be on August 19th as race fans will be able to come down on the frontstretch for a meet and greet with their favorite drivers. Finally, the Season Championships will take place on October 22nd where the 2011 track championships will be claimed. “I think we have put together a really nice 2011 schedule”, stated H&L Motorsports co-owner T.
