Williams Continues Potomac Dominance With Friday Victory

Budds Creek, MD- Charlotte Hall Md.’s David Williams continued his winning ways as he was victorious in last Friday nights 35-lap Bobby Allen Memorial at Potomac Speedway.

The $2000 win, for the current LM point leader and defending track champion, was his third of the season and career 28th in the late model division at Potomac.

Williams and fellow front row starter Keith Jackson paced the field to the initial green flag of the event. Jackson darted into the race lead as the pack raced off turn-two. Jackson appeared as though he would collect his second career Potomac late model win as he would lead the first seventeen caution free laps of the feature. However, David Williams had other ideas. Williams had stalked Jackson the entire event until he made what would be the winning pass on lap-18. Prior to the winning pass, Williams and Jackson made contact on the backstretch that resulted in a flat right rear tire on Jackson’s mount forcing him to pit, ending a brilliant run. Williams would then go on to lead the remaining 18-laps, despite the constant pressure from eventual runner-up Kyle Lear, to post his overall 80th career Potomac speedway feature win.

“It’s such an honor to drive this car.” Williams stated. “I knew at the start of the season we’d be pretty good down here, but I had no idea we would have won three of the first four races. I cant thank Pete Cameron and Roland Mann enough for giving me this opportunity.” The lap-17 contact with Keith Jackson was the turning point in the race. “I don’t think he knew I was there.” Williams bottom-lined. “He moved up going into three and we touched. I didn’t mean for it to happen but I had a run on the outside and I wasn’t sure who was behind me so I kept my foot in it and we were able to get the lead. It’s a bad deal for Keith, but that’s happened to me before.” Daryl Hills came home third, Steven Axtell Jr. came from 12th to finish fourth and Dale Hollidge completed the top-five. Hills and Williams scored heat race wins.

Stephen Quade liked winning so much the week prior, he cam from his 12th starting spot to score his second 16-lap street stock victory in a row. As the race got under way Troy Kassiris, the current class point leader, shot into the race lead. Quade, meanwhile, was on the move as he reached second by lap-13 and would then become the new leader on the 14th circuit and eventually take the win over Kassiris. Mike Latham was third, Eric Johnson took fourth and Donnie Smith filled the top-five. Latham took the heat race win.

In other action, Bud Pickeral scored his second win of the season in the 15-lap hobby stock feature, Ray Bucci collected his third win in the 20-lap strictly stock event, Brian Lederhouse annexed the 10-lap u-car feature and Fred Krickbaum triumphed in the vintage car event.
