FASTRAK NORTHEAST READY TO INVADE MCKEAN COUNTY SATURDAY 1ST OF 4 TOURING SERIES EVENTS

by Mike Leone
East Smethport, Penn. (June 16) - After finally getting in the “Topless 25” last Saturday night at Tyler County after three previous failed attempts, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will head to McKean County Raceway on Saturday (June 18) for the first of four appearances at the East Smethport, Pa. oval.  Race #6 will pay $1,200 to-win.

Saturday’s race at McKean will actually be the track’s season opener as the two previous shows were cancelled due to inclement weather.

McKean is entering their fifth season under the FASTRAK banner and was one of the original four tracks back when FASTRAK debuted in the Northeast in 2007.

McKean has been the site of eight Northeast Touring Series events over the past four years with an amazing seven different winners.  John Lacki has been the only racer to repeat to date, while Todd Andrews, Max Blair, Kyle Drum, Butch Lambert, Robbie Blair, and Steve Dixon have recorded single victories.  Ironically, the victories for Andrews, Drum, and Lambert were all three drivers’ only career Touring Series victories.

“We’re looking forward to heading north to McKean on Saturday,” stated fifth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “Ken Leet, Rich Yeager, Todd Gleason and the rest of the MCR staff have been tremendous to work with and have never wavered from their support of FASTRAK.  Their commitment to the division has been a very important part of the growth and stability of FASTRAK- especially in the northern part of our region.  In turn, they’ve always been rewarded with strong car counts and tremendous racing.”

Combined with his third place finish last Saturday night and Mike Pegher, Jr’s eighth place, Max Blair has doubled his point lead to 10 over Pegher heading into Saturday night.  The duo finished one-two last year, and Blair is now in search of his third title in four seasons, while Pegher is looking for his first ever Touring Series Championship.  McKean is one of the few tracks where Pegher has yet to log a win at.

Joe Martin, who has been able to captured three Weekly Series wins at Sharon and another at Tri-City Speedway, has yet to find victory lane in a Touring Series this season.  Martin is third in points ahead of Josh Holtgraver and Dixon, who is chomping at the bit to return to his hometown track.

The Utsinger’s Towing “Hoosier Tire Giveaway” program will resume Saturday night awarding a new FASTRAK Hoosier tire to the driver running last on the lead lap at the finish. To date Steve Davis, Jamie Brown, Shane Weaver, Kyle Thomas, and Matt Long have been recipients.

The Original Pizza Logs Contingency Connection will again award two $1,000 contingency packages to lucky drivers on Saturday.  Mike Pegher, Jr., Ricky Meglaye, Steve Dixon, Ryan Montgomery, Robbie Blair, Rick Strickler, Joe Martin, Billy Stile III, Shawn Jett, and Kyle Thomas have been selected to date.

The “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series is back for its second season and will take place at McKean County provided there are 30 or more cars.  Kyle Zimmerman took the top honors at Roaring Knob, while Brian Lessley swept both events over Memorial Day Weekend at Sharon and Lernerville Speedways. Fourteen-year-old rookie Lauren Longbrake of Columbus, Ohio is the current point leader.

There have been 59 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 26 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series.  Max Blair leads the list at 11 victories over Mike Pegher, Jr. with nine followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and David Scott with four, Alan Dellinger, Steve Dixon and Josh Holtgraver with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Joe Martin, Dusty Hamrick, Bud Watson, and Dan Angelicchio with one victory.
