Scheffler scores feature win at Manitowoc County Expo Speedway

MANITOWOC, Wisc. Dan Dippel (Plymouth) and Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) led the Late Models onto the track, followed by Wayne Block (Tigerton), making his first appearance in Manty, and Nick Cochart (Casco). Due to some mechanical issues with his own ride, Schueffner was in Charlie Schmidts car of last year. Schueffner would get the jump on Dippel and grab the lead, with Ron Stroika (Mukwonago) Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan) and Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) rounding out the top 5 after the first lap. The invert left Tom Naeyaert (Shawano), Gordie Seegert Jr (Oostburg), and Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) deep in the pack and having to battle their way to the front. Drivers were searching for their favorite line, as both the high and low side were working, and cars were racing 3 and 4 wide off the corners. On lap 11 Scheffler would get around both Stroika and Dippel for second, and a lap later would take the lead. At the halfway point it was still Scheffler, Schueffner, Dippel, Stroika, and Ted Dolhoun Sr. (Franklin) in the top five. Buhler, Seegert Jr. and Naeyaert were still altogether battling for 6th as they made their way forward. With one lap to go Scheffler still held the lead, with Buhler coming hard, but Russ would hold on for the win, with Tim taking home second, Stroika third, Schueffner fourth, and Seegert Jr, rounding out the top 5. A fantastic green to checkered run and the hard charger honors went to Buhler and Seegert Jr. with 7 each and Scheffler with 6, and Naeyaert with 5.
