Davis pads point lead with second win at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway

PITTSBURGH, Penn. (July 16) - Rayland OH's Mike Davis won his second Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar win of 2011 and added to his point lead. Jim Stephans grabbed the lead at the start, and opened up a large lead and was looking as if he was headed to a career first LM win, but a yellow for Mike Norris and Brandon Wearing on lap 9 ended that. On the restart John Garvin grabbed the lead with 8th starting Davis and Stephans right behind. Garvin was looking like he might be headed to his first win of the season when he got too high in turns one and two and slammed the wall ending his night and bringing the races second caution. On the restart Davis grabbed the lead with Stephans and Steve Baker trailing. The last caution was on lap 16 was for last week's winner Lynn Geisler who stopped on the back straight after he was hit with a rock in his face shield while running fifth. Lynn was stunned, ended up with a large welt under his eye, and called it a night. On the restart Davis was back up front and Jared Miley moved into second with Steve Baker and Jim Stephans behind. Stephans's night ended with a loss of oil pressure due to a hole in his oil tank and he pitted. Davis led comfortably the rest of the way, with Miley never really mounting a challenge. However officials decided Miley had jumped on the last restart, moving Steve Baker into second and Ben Miley into third in the final rundown. The top three were followed by Jared Miley, Daryl Charlier, Mike Johnson, Kari Gasser, Jon Hodgkiss, Tom Duratz and Stephans. Steve Baker and Mike Davis won the heats. Mike Basich's rear end came loose during his heat and did enough damage to keep him out of the feature, and Dave Wade lost an engine keeping him out of the night's program. Tommy Beck dropped out on lap 9 with unknown problems.

Charleroi PA's Beau Glemba picked up his first win of 2011 in the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Late Model feature. Tony Sinicrope grabbed the lead at the start and led the first five laps, while Glemba, who started 9th worked his way into second by lap 5 also, followed by Justin Lamb, Bryan Hoffman and Mike Pegher Jr. Glemba moved into first on lap 6, followed by Lamb, Sinicrope and Pegher. Sinicrope pitted with a flat the next lap, at the same time two time winner Pegher also got a flat and brought out the caution. Sinicrope retuned while Pegher did not. From that point on the race was all Glemba's as he pulled away for the win. Lamb was a solid second followed by Mike Reft, Steve Beatty, Colton Flinner, Mark Moats Jr., Tom Klein, Nico Dabecco, Mark Moats, Sr. (subbing in the Ken Chernik C1), and Dustin Curry. The heats had Ken Chernik and Beau Glemba take wins.

Saltsburg PA's Jonathan Taylor won his third Miley RV Service UMP Modified feature of the season. Taylor used an outside pole starting spot to lead the entire distance. Four time winner Bruce Takach started last and worked his way up to second, but couldn't catch the fleet Taylor. Chris Basich, Clayton Kennedy, Kari Gasser, George Nicola, Kevin Smith, Neal Isiminger (subbing for Tom Martineck), Vince Laboon, and Denny Nakutis all trailed the front pair. Chris Basich won the heat.

Imperial PA's Nick Kocuba won his 4th feature of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets and picked up the $100 bonus for racing at another speedway and winning at PPMS. Gary Koteles led the first two laps before 5th starting Kocuba took over and led the remaining laps. Jake Simmons came from 10th to finish second followed by Craig Koteles, Gary Koteles, Curt Bish, Jesse Gould, Josh Langer, Dave McManus, A.J. Poljak, and Steve Pyeritz. Jake Simmons won the heat.

Richard Wilson, Pittsburgh PA, won his first ever feature in the Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks. Wilson started 2nd and battled with Brian Huchko (subbing for Ed Wiser), and Ricky Steigerwald most of the way. Steigerwald dropped out in the late stages with overheating problems. Ian Tomei finished third followed by Hannah Ramsey, J.J. O'Patchen, Steve Hoschar, Ricky Steigerwald, and Joe Podolinsky. Ricky Steigerwald won the heat.

Carnegie PA's Logan Crewl won his 4th feature of 2011 in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns. Crewl started 5th and took over first on lap 4 and defeated Todd Weldon, Bernie Blair, Peter Block, Adam Carson, Zach Stehle, and Christian Schneider.

Upcoming at PPMS on July 23 will be the UFO vs ULMS F-2 Shockwave for Super Late Models, with 2 28 lap UFO/ULMS Feature each paying $2,000 to win for a total of $4,000. Also on the card are the Crate Lates, TSMA E-Mods, Cadets, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns. It will also be Nickels Bakery/Berk's Hot Dogs $1 Dog Night! There will be a Sunday rain date for the show. On July 30 it will be a regular show plus Bad Habit Monster Truck and Quad Exhibition and the Wacky Wheels Triple 8. It will also be Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Night.
