Baer Wins Again at SSP on Saturday Night in Late Models

Newberrytown, PA (July 23) – On Saturday night, July 23 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, tempers flared after the 25-lap Late Model feature as Dover’s Larry Baer returning to victory lane for the second consecutive week over Carl Billet. In victory lane, both drivers had some choice words about each other, setting up another showdown next Saturday night. In Street Stock racing action, Littlestown’s Randy Zechman won his third feature event of the season in the 20-lapper. Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick picked up his third consecutive win in the Xtreme Stock Car class with a last lap pass for the victory. Brian Lefebvre of Etters won the 15-lap Road Warrior feature for the second consecutive week. Pete Neal won the 15-lap Classic Cars feature event.

The 25-lap Late Model feature event started with Larry Baer quickly grabbing the lead from the pole position. Baer set the pass with plenty of battles behind him for position. A late race caution with four laps to go bunched up the field and gave Carl Billet and Billy Wampler a shot at the win. On the final circuit, Billet and Baer tangled, scattering the field behind them. All cars continued with Baer taking the win over Billet. Wampler settled for third, followed by Charles Potts and John Moser Jr. Heat wins went to Alex Updegraff and Gary Potts.

Polesitter Jimmy Slaseman grabbed the early lead of the 20-lap Street Stock feature but relinquished the lead on the next lap to 2010 Street Stock champion Randy Zechman. Behind Zechman, a wild scramble for position ensued with multiple changes. At the end, Zechman held on for the win over Doug Bennett and Scott Thunberg. Jeff Haag finished fourth, followed by point leader Dan Zechman in fifth. Randy Zechman and Jim Palm Jr. were heat race victors.

The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event saw four different leaders with Donnie Broderick taking the lead on the final lap to record his third feature win. Patrick McClane settled for second place after leading laps eleven through nineteen. Tim Hahn led laps eight to ten and finished third. Michael Goodwin, winner of the first ever Xtreme Stock Car feature back in 2004, finished fourth, followed by Adam Smith in fifth. Johnny Palm and Hahn won their heat races.

Brian Lefebvre led every lap of the Road Warrior 15-lapper to claim his second victory of the year. Jeff Svendsen finished second, foloowed by Curt McDade, Dennis Dorosz and Jesse Hitz. Daryl Sipe won the heat race.

The 15-lap Classic Car feature found Pete Neal leading from start to finish to take the victory. Bill Brown Sr. started tenth and finished in the runner-up spot. Joe Snodgrass finished third, followed by Matt Wallace and Jim Crocker rounding out the top five. Crocker and Neal won their respective heat races.
