Title: Skyline Speedway - 8/19 Results Post by LMR on 08/20/11 at 9:55pm Skyline Speedway August 19, 2011 ________________________________________ Carpenter pounds out another AMRA Late Model win at Skyline Speedway by Scott Wolfe STEWART, Ohio - A good crowd and a stout field of 100 cars set the stage for a perfect "Autograph Night' celebration at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway where Grafton, WV driver Andre Layfield brought home the OVSCA 410 Outlaw Sprint win and Parkersburg's Chris Carpenter pounded out another AMRA Late Model win. Zanesville, OH driver Jess Hartman claimed the AMRA Modified main, K-C Burdette won the Crate Late Model feature, and Cole Mayle tallied another Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedge main. The torrid sprint main ran just over six minutes in a green-to-checkered run that saw Andre Layfield come back to form for his second win in the month of August. The Grafton, WV driver who fabricates Airplane parts himself was a high-flyer, lapping all the way up to the seventh place car. His run was a hard-fought affair early when Layfield and young Aaron Higgins, Waverly, OH exchanged slide jobs until Layfield ran off from the rest of the pack in the latter stages. Three B & J Welding and Contracting cars finished in the next three slots, and for a time Higgins and last week's OVSCA Friday night winner Jimmy Nier battled hard for second. Ageless Benny Hickel, Pomeroy, Ohio was poised for one of his best ever runs, running fourth for much of the event until tire fatigue shuffled him back to 9th at the finish. Meanwhile, up-and-comer Chris Myers filled the void with an impressive run to fifth ahead of the race hard charger Keith Baxter, who ricocheted from 14th to 7th. Dave Dickson and Brian Benson made up some lost ground as well for top ten finishes. Rounding out the top ten were Andre Layfield, Aaron Higgins, Jimmy Nier, Jimmy Stinson, Chris Myers, Keith Baxter, Dave Dickson, Brian Benson, Benny Hickel, and Josh Davis. Heat winners were Layfield, Higgins, Nier and fast time went to Wayne McPeek (11:48), while Mark Imler brought home the B-main for the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) chargers. It took three tries to get the AMRA late model main to get a lap in, but once the fire ignited the blistering race went green-to-checkered. The first incident sent front runner Chris Garnes to the tail for an altercation with veteran Larry Bond. The second start saw pole-setter Freddie Carpenter's Tru-Tech House Car sent to the rear of the field for a scrap with outside pole sitter Ralph Withem. The third time was a charm with Withem on the pole and the rest of the pack breathing heavily down his hindquarters. Withem led the first round then it was young Chris Carpenter hard on the throttle the rest of the way. Withem clung close for the first nine laps, then Carpenter wisely picked holes in the traffic to race to yet another Skyline win. Carpenter's blitz was impressive, however, the charges of Chris Garnes and Papa Carpenter off the tail was what put the fans on their feet. Only a couple time-consuming bobbles in lapped traffic may have kept Garnes out of the top three; if not out of victory lane. Garnes was 'Extreme" in his Swartz #42 blasting from the tail to fourth. The elder Carpenter also put on a show in an 18th to 11th place run, getting stone-walled by Roy Roush and Travis Brookover in a lengthy late-race exchange. Traffic was a huge factor as at least a pair of cars always separated winning Chris Carpenter from second place Withem, while the same remained true for Withem and Colton Burdette. Garnes closed in on Burdette with three to go, but couldn't make any higher up the ladder as Carpenter streaked under starter Mike Haught's checkered flag. Although Garnes and Carpenter both raced off the tail, it was K-C Burdette who was the official race hard-charger. Bub Crum had a great run into the top ten as did Roy Roush, who surrounded the always-fast Travis Brookover. Rounding out the top ten were Chris Carpenter, Ralph Withem, Colton Burdette, Chris Garnes, Dan Morrison, KC Burdette, Larry Bond, Bub Crum, Travis Brookover, and Roy Roush. Zanesville's Jess Hartman, the soon-to-be newlywed, was determined not to be the bridesmaid Friday night as he rocketed to victory in his pink Bob Pierce chassis #5 over a stout field of cars. Hartman thwarted off the best that the AMRA had to offer in high-flying style. Perhaps the best battle of the race was the duel between Jeremy Blake and Andy Bond. That duo went neck-and-neck the entire race for second position. Race co-hard charger Chris Stotts blasted from 13th to fourth making some of the AMRA's best his victims along the way. Stotts had spirited battles with Doug Henry the Road Warrior point leader, Robbie Evans and Robert Garnes. Likewise, the other co-hard charger Rick Venham, Jr. started 16th and marched to 7th as part of what proved to be a great passing night. Frankie Roush had a good run in his beautiful new mount. Rounding out the top ten were Jess Hartman, Jeremy Blake, Andy Bond, Chris Stotts, Doug Henry, Robbie Evans, Rick Venham, Jr., Robert Garnes, Frankie Roush, and Jeremy Jarvis. K-C Burdette ran away and hid from the rest of the field in the Crate Late Models. The last Skyline feature winner Frankie Hall challenged early, but could not keep pace with the young P-burg high-flyer. Rounding out the top ten were KC Burdette, Frankie Hall, Terry Hinkel, Derek Rogers, Nelson Freshour, Nathan Harrison, Eric Francis, Matt Kussmaul, Tim Good, and Willie Bigham . Matt Kussmaul was the hard charger in a 14th to 8th place run . In the Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedges, Cole Mayle was once again the class of the field. Mayle reportedly picked up his 12th feature win of the year. Rounding out the top ten were Cole Mayle, Colten Perine, Tyler Evans, Ryan Bigley, Martin Gibson, Jr., Coleman Evans, Cale Stinson, Austin Washburn, Jason Gillian, Kasey Rankin, Gabe Pepper, Samantha Roush, Matthew Gossett, Pierce Newlon, and Zach Carr (DNS). Cale Stinson, son of Jimmy Stinson and great grandson of the elder Audie Swartz became the FOURTH generation of Swartz's to drive a race car.
