Title: Susquehanna Speedway Park - 8/20 Results Post by LMR on 08/21/11 at 11:23am Susquehanna Speedway Park August 20, 2011 Knopp Claims Much Needed Late Model Win at Susquehanna Speedway Park Super Sportsman Return to SSP Next Saturday Night NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (August 20, 2011) – On Saturday night, August 20 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, Chris Knopp of Fawn Grove claimed his third Late Model feature win of the season. In Street Stock racing action, Auburn’s Jeff Haag claimed his second feature win of the 2011 season. York’s Patrick McClane won his third Xtreme Stock Car feature event of the season. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe won the 10-lap Mini Van feature for the fifth consecutive time this season. Bud Barton won the Inaugural Heritage Cup race in the Xcel 600 Modifeds first-ever visit to SSP. The 25-lap Late Model feature event started with Chris Knopp grabbing the lead from the pole position. At noon on Saturday. Knopp didn’t even know if he was racing as he waited for his racing engine to be delivered. The engine arrived in time for the team to put it in the car and make it to the track in time to race on Saturday night. Knopp set the pace from the onset of the race with many battles for position behind him on the multi-groove racetrack. Towards the waning stages of the race, Justin Ehrhart and Randy Christine Jr. raced for the runner-up spot. At he finish, Ehrhart edged out Christine for second place, five car lengths behind the winner Knopp. Alex Updegraff claimed a solid fourth place ahead of veteran Late Model driver Coleby Frye. Heat wins went Knopp, Christine and Jason Rochelle. In the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Jeff Haag took the lead from his third place starting spot at the start of the race. Haag set the pace with Scott Thunberg stalking in the runner-up spot. In the race which only had two cautions on laps 1 and 10, Haag never faltered as he went on to win the race over Thunberg and Marshall McMullen. Randy Zechman came from the rear of the field after he changed cars following the heat race to finish fourth. Bruce McClane finished strongly in fifth. Dan Zechman and Haag were heat race victors. Davey Nester took the early lead in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event until he was forced to the pits on the third circuit with mechanical failures. Patrick McClane inherited the lead with Tim Hahn and J.R. Rodriguez looking for the opportunity to arise to take the top spot from McClane. The yellow flag flew on lap 19, setting up a one-lap shoot-out for the win. McClane never faltered and took the win over Rodriguez. Hahn dropped back on the restart with a flat tire. Josh Bloom claimed the third position with Adam Smith and Cameron Benyou rounding out the top five. Nester, Smith and Rodriguez won their respective heat races. Bud Barton made his way from an 11th place starting spot to the lead by lap 15 of the twenty lapper for the Xcel 600 Modifieds to claim the Inaugural Heritage Cup race. Early leader Cory Coons settled for the runner-up spot with Joe Fanulli finishing third. George Loux and Pasco Tomaino finished fourth and fifth respectively. Chris Stockholm and Nick Mady were heat race victors. The 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature had Auburn’s Aaron Brommer continuing his dominance of the class this season with fifth consecutive win of the season. Fred Krickbaum was the runner-up followed by Paul Hoffman. Rick Pastor and Paul Bacchus rounded out the top five. Hoffman won the heat race earlier in the evening. Daryl Sipe led every lap of the Mini Van feature to claim his fifth consecutive victory of the year. In his Mini Van debut, Anthony Robert finished second, followed by Davey Groff Jr. Al Kessock and Donny Groff rounded out the top five. Daryl Sipe won the heat race. Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midgets, karts, Adult Speedcars and lawnmower racing action in the Summer Shoot-Out Series. Racing action then returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, August 27 with the York County Racing Club Night. Racing action will feature the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors and Classic Cars. After postponing their feature event on June 11, The Super Sportsman Tour have been added to the program and will have two features which includes the make-up from the postponed June 11 race. The start time is 7:00 p.m. for racing action on Saturday night. The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
