by Clash PR
ELKIN, N.C. - On Saturday August 20th  Luke Roffers set fastest time to earn the front row starting spot and went flag to flag to take the $4,000 to win Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series main event. Johnny Pursley in his Twin Oaks, Rocket Impala  ran a close 2nd , Kenny Compton Jr. piloted his Appalachian Leasing, Bloomquist chassis to a 3rd place finish and Dennis 'Rambo'  Franklin  brought his Cherokee Landscaping, Barry Wright-Impala home in 4th . Ross Bailes piloted the Masterbuilt B4 machine to a 5th place finish.

Tim Allen set 2nd fastest time to fill the front row. Roffers and Allen were also the front row starters in the last Carolina Clash event held at Carolina Speedway. It took 3 attempts to complete lap one. On the 3rd start Roffers was able to take the top spot coming off turn two. Allen was shuffled back to 4th place while Johnny Pursley took advantage of the inside lane and moved into 2nd behind Roffers.

Kenny Compton started on the 4th row outside and settled into 7th place. On lap 5 Compton made a pass on Tim Allen for the 6th spot and on lap 6 moved around Ricky weeks to break into the top 5. On lap 20 Compton edged passed Ross Bailes to take 4th and on lap 23 made a move to the inside of Rambo to take over 3rd place. Compton followed close behind the leaders for the remaining few lap and took home 3rd place.

Scott Autry raced his way into the feature after racing to a 4th place finish in the heat race to earn the 17th starting place in the main event. On the 2nd lap of the main event Autry would go pitside with a flat tire. With 23 cars still on track, Autry restarted 23rd with 38 laps to make his march toward the front. By the end of the race Autry had moved up to finish in the 7th place.

Jeff Smith was involved in an on track incident on lap 5 and went pit side for repairs. Smith made it back on the track just as the green flag flew for the restart. Smith restarted only a few car lengths ahead of the lead pack and maintained a five to six car advantage on the lead pack until a caution flew. This allowed him to catch up to the rear of the field. From that point on, Smith was on a mission to move to the front as he used both inside and outside lanes to advance through the field. Smith made it to the 10th spot before time ran out.

Another chase contender, David Taylor, went to pits on lap 7 and had to restart in the rear of the field. By lap 29 Taylor had made multiple pit stops but was able to stay on the lead lap. By the end of the race Taylor had made a late charge to the front and finished 13th.

In the Klotz Lubricants ROY battle Chad Paxton extended his lead over 2nd place contender Travis Yow. Paxton finished 14th while Yow finished 23rd. Travis Yow who was tied for 6th in Chase points qualified 9th on his first lap in qualifying and broke a rearend on the second lap. Unable to repair his machine by the main event, Yow started the race in the #84 back-up car of Jay Sessoms.

In the JE Pistons Roush/Yates Performance "Chase for the Championship." Roffers extended his point lead over Rambo to a 25 point lead. Kenny Compton is 25 points back in 3rd. Jeff Smith moved up one spot into 4th and Dustin Mitchell rounds out the top 5. Scott Autry made the biggest move in the points standing as he was 10th going into Friendship and moved up 4 spots to the 6th place.

The next event for the Carolina Clash will be on September 10th at Volunteer Speedway for a $5,000 to win event.
