Title: Chub Frank collects back to back 7th place finishes in Michigan Post by LMR on 08/24/11 at 2:34am FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 23, 2011 ________________________________________ World of Outlaws Late Model Series Doubleheader In Michigan Yields Back-To-Back Seventh-Place Finishes For Chub Frank BEAR LAKE, PA – Aug. 23, 2011 – Chub Frank scored back-to-back seventh-place finishes during last weekend’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader in Michigan – a respectable trip for the veteran from Bear Lake, Pa. But Frank knows he came oh-so-close to a pair of top-five runs in the Wolverine State. “We had a real good shot at two top-fives,” said the 49-year-old Frank. “We just fell a little bit short.” Frank came within one lap of steering his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* to a fifth-place finish in last Friday night’s ‘Keyser Manufacturing 50’ at Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Mich. After starting 12th, he found himself sitting fifth after a flurry of late-race action, but on the final circuit he was overtaken by Shane Clanton and Tim Fuller and settled for seventh place. “I screwed that up and lost fifth. I wasn’t happy about that,” admitted Frank. “I just bobbled on the last lap and caught the infield banking. I bounced, and that just let those guys get a run and get by us.” Frank came back strong the following night at Merritt Raceway in Lake City, Mich., timing fourth-fastest in the 46-car field and winning a heat race for the first time on this year’s WoO LMS. Unfortunately he had no luck in the pre-feature draw for position, picking the worst spot – eighth – on a track that was not conducive to charges to the front of the pack. The driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ was able to climb up to fifth just prior to the halfway point of the 50-lap A-Main, but he lost the position to Josh Richards on lap 29 and was later passed for sixth by Clanton. “The redraw killed us tonight,” said Frank. “It wasn’t a good night to start eighth – the track wasn’t too good for passing. It just had too much traction on the bottom and it was too slippery on the top. You had to have a really good car to go around the outside, and my car was too loose in the feature.” The seventh-place finishes did allow Frank to maintain fifth place in the WoO LMS points standings. He sits 278 points behind leader Rick Eckert, but he’s pulled within 80 markers of fourth-place Tim McCreadie with nine events remaining on the 2011 schedule. Frank’s visit to Michigan closed out his long-distance trips for the month of August. His WoO LMS starts earlier in the month featured a seventh-place finish on Aug. 3 at Shawano (Wis.) Speedway (finished seventh); a DNQ (overheating) for the USA Nationals on Aug. 5-6 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. (the race offered only show-up points); and an 11th-place finish on Aug. 8 at Independence (Iowa) Speedway. He also competed in a Corn Belt Clash Series show on Aug. 4 at Cedar Lake (finished 17th) and entered the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series ‘North-South 100’ on Aug. 12-13 at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky. (he did not qualify after scratching from his heat race). With the WoO LMS off until a Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va., on Sept. 3 and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa., on Sept. 4, Frank is planning to enter this Friday night’s weekly DIRTcar UMP Late Model show at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
