Title: Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway - 8/27 Results Post by LMR on 08/28/11 at 12:23pm Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway August 27, 2011 ________________________________________ Norris tops DIRTcar Super Late Models at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway PITTSBURGH, Penn. (August 27) - Michael Norris, Sarver PA picked up win #2 in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Models. Steve Baker and Norris brought the field down for the green. The pair battled side by side for the first lap, before Baker pulled ahead coming off turn 4. For the next 22 laps Baker had things his own way leading Norris by 3-4 car lengths, who in turn was leading John Mollick by the same amount. Then on lap 23, Daryl Charlier (in his first night in the Castelvetter #27C), blew a tire and hit the wall hard between turns 3&4 bringing out the caution. On the restart Baker and Norris battled for the lead with Norris getting the edge and leading the last laps. Baker was second followed by Jim Stephans (who came from 11th), Mollick, Mike Davis, Mike Johnson, Kyle Lukon, Ben Miley, Kari Gasser, and Jim Lepro. The two heats saw brothers Davey Johnson and Mike Johnson pick up the wins, while Michael Norris won the Round Robin Open Motor Finish, and Steve Baker won the Spec Motor Round Robin Special. Mike Pegher was driving the Lynn Geisler machine but blew a motor in hot laps, and Mike Basich also did not start the main. Jayme Beck made her first start after arriving late, but started the main and finished 14th. It marked the first time two female drivers started a LM feature. The Brougher's Machine Shop Crate Fastrak Crate Late Models had Burgettstown PA's Kyle Lukon return and pick up his 4th win of the year and 21st career win, and made him the top winner this season in the class. Point leader Colton Flinner started on the pole and led the first 15 laps, while Lukon who started 12th worked his way up to second and began to challenge Flinner. Then on lap 16 something broke on Flinner's car and he tagged the wall in turns three and four and was done for the night. Lukon took over first and held off a strong challenge from Josh Holtgraver (who came from the tail after pitting on lap 9). Scott Schempp had another strong run and finished third followed by Nico Dabecco, Mark Moats Jr., Chuck Medved, Mike Anderson, Ken Chernik, Tony Sinicrope, and Tony White. The heats fell to Chuck Medved (for his first ever win), and Mike Reft, plus Beau Glemba won the special Australian Pursuit. McKees Rocks PA's Jake Simmons won his 10th feature of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets, and has a shot at tying/breaking the all-time season win record of 12 set in 2001 by Rich Apolito. Simmons started first and led the entire distance and beat Nick Kocuba, Wayne Carbo, Pat Weldon, Josh Langer, Drew Koteles, Dave Slade, Gary Koteles, Jesse Gould and Curt Bish. Nick Kocuba and A.J. Poljak picked up the heat wins, while Kocuba also won the special Australian Pursuit Special. Rayland OH Mike Davis subbed for point leader Bruce Takach in the Miley RV Service UMP Modifieds and promptly picked up his first win in the class. Davis started 6th and took over first on lap 2 and led the rest of the race. J.E. Stalder was second followed by Tom Martineck (who led the opening lap), Kevin Miller, George Nicola, Vince Laboon, Denny Nakutis, Chris Basich and Bill Yohe. Mike Davis won the heat, while Chris Basich won the Crack the Whip special. Brian Huchko, McDonald PA, picked up his first win of the season in the Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks.
