Title: Casino Speedway - 9/4 Results Post by LMR on 09/04/11 at 11:10pm Casino Speedway September 4, 2011 ________________________________________ Becker earns Late Model feature win in AMSOIL Dirt Track Series action by Tony Steuck WATERTOWN, S.D. (September 4) - Scott Ward did it again on Sunday night at Casino Speedway and raced from twelfth to win the 60 lap Advantage RV Modified Tour finale. Ward, who also won on Saturday night, collected $3,000 for the victory in the JDRF Fall Shootout. Chad Becker earned the Late Model feature win in AMSOIL Dirt Track Series action while Les Schoon and Scott Borstad waited until their last opportunity to score their first wins of the season at Casino Speedway in the Midwest Modified and Street Stock divisions. Kaleb Johnson notched the victory in the MiniaKota Micro Sprint main event on night two of the double header. Chad Williamson grabbed the lead from the pole of the 20 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature followed by Seth Brede and Curt Gelling. The yellow flag dropped with only one lap complete after Jason Grabow and John Winge each spun in turn one. Chad Becker powered from fifth into third after the restart and challenged Brede for second. Scott Ward moved into fifth and threatened Gelling before the yellow waved again on lap four. Dave McDonald and John Kaiser tangled in turn one to bring out the yellow. Dustin Beebe, Grabow, Mark Abeln and Shawn Malsam were involved in an incident after the restart and kept the field stalled on lap four. Becker moved to second after the restart and immediately went to work on Williamson for the lead. Becker raced to the outside of the leader, but Williamson slammed the door each time. He tried the low side, but Williamson managed to remain at the point while the field clicked down the laps. Becker finally made a move stick to the outside and grabbed the lead on lap 12. He set the pace until a final caution flag waved with two laps remaining to set up a green white checkered finish. Becker raced unchallenged in the final laps and Williamson ran comfortably in second, but Ward stole the third spot from Brede with a slide job in the final corner. Paul Mueller finished in the fifth slot. Grabow, Gelling and Williamson topped the Late Model heat races. Telly Thompson and Jordan Foster redrew the front row after the 20 car WISSOTA Modified grid rolled onto the speedway. Foster jumped to the lead when the green flag dropped while Thompson slid backward through the pack. Todd Stark ran second in the early laps while sixth starter Mike Stearns wrestled third away from Scott Hansen by lap four. Joel Waba challenged Hansen for position and Ward advanced into sixth by lap six. Ward grabbed fifth from Waba on lap seven and fourth from Hansen on the next circuit. Stearns battled with Stark for second and secured the spot on lap 11, Ward raced by Stark into third on lap 13. Foster put the last place car down a lap on trip number 14 and caught heavy traffic by lap 17. The top four cars broke away with Waba fifth and Nate Heinrich sixth. Foster maintained a comfortable lead and had three lapped cars between himself and Stearns at the halfway mark of the 60 lapper. Ward made several bids for second amongst traffic, but Stearns held him off each time before the first caution flag of the event waved with 34 circuits scored. Scott Tofte spun in turn four to warrant the yellow. Stearns and Ward swapped the second position after the restart while Waba moved into fourth and Kent Arment cracked the top five after starting 11th on the original grid. Ward finally secured the runner up slot on lap 40 and used the inside groove to work under the high running Foster. Ward pulled up to the quarter panel of the leader on lap 42 then edged him at the flag stand to lead lap 43. Caution flag number two fell with 44 laps complete after Thompson slowed to a stop in turn four; he was the first car out of the race. Foster remained in second after the restarted and mounted a comeback against the new leader. He continued to navigate the high side of the speedway and pulled even with Ward on lap 46, but Ward slammed the door with a slide job in turn two. Arment stole third from Stearns after a brief side by side battle and 13th starter Andy Gordon moved into the top five with ten laps to go. The final caution dropped with 52 laps scored after Brent Dutenhoffer looped his machine on the back stretch. Arment raced into second after the double file restart and Gordon took fourth from Stearns. Gordon picked up one more spot when he passed Foster on the next lap. Heinrich challenged Foster before Rich Pavlicek and Stearns joined the battle in the final laps. Ward opened up nearly a straightaway lead in the closing circuits to score his second Advantage RV Modified Tour feature win of the weekend. Arment finished second and was also crowned the tours point champion. Gordon finished third, Foster held on for fourth and Heinrich, who finished second in the point standings, rounded out the top five. Stearns, Pavlicek, Waba, Stark and Chris Prussman rounded out the top ten in a race where 18 of the 20 starters took the checkered flag. Hansen, Tofte, Stearns and Arment each topped a Modified heat race. Gordon and Denver Nickeson topped the consolation races. Scott Borstad moved to the early lead from the front row of the WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Adam Butterfield ran second while Wade Tirrel and Tyler Lambert raced by Maria Konold in the top five before the only caution on lap two. Jesse Bush and Jason Marko got together in turn one to bring out the yellow. Borstad remained in control after the restart while Butterfield and Tirrel raced for second, Lambert ran third and Konold and 11th starting Lance Haskell battled for fifth. Tirrel drifted backward on lap seven and fell from the top five. Butterfield held second while Haskell and Lambert engaged in a dog fight on his bumper that lasted the rest of the race. Borstad held a comfortable lead the remainder of the race and picked up his first Casino Speedway Street Stock victory. Behind him, a scramble ensued out of the final turn where a pack of four cars smashed and crashed across the finish line. Haskell was scored second, Butterfield spun across the line with a flat tire, but was credited with third, Konold finished fourth and Chris Serr finished fifth. Lambert was blamed for the melee and was dropped to 14th, the final car running at the finish. Tirrel and Butterfield earned the final Street Stock heat wins of the season. For the second night in a row, the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature was plagued by three cautions in the first two laps of the race. Jason Anderson and Danny Hall battled for the lead in the opening laps while D.J. Tesch, Tony Konold and Les Schoon ran in close contention. Hall secured the top spot on lap four, but Tesch advanced on the bottom of the speedway and Schoon ran high to challenge for the lead. Schoon made a dramatic move to the low side of Hall and stole the lead out of turn four. Hall ran a close second, but when a lapped car got loose ahead of the leader, Hall made contact with Schoon and turned him around. The call went against the lapped car of Cody Ohman and Schoon was reinstated as the leader with Hall second. Schoon pulled away after the restart while Tony Croninger and Tesch battled for second. Lorin Johnson was into the top five in the late stages and worked on Hall for fourth, but could not stick a pass. Schoon picked up his first victory at the speedway in a Midwest Modified ahead of Tesch, Croninger, Hall and Johnson. Schoon, Rich Pavlicek and Hall notched heat wins. Kaleb Johnson, with the aid of lapped traffic, made a last lap pass to steal the MiniaKota Micro Sprint feature win from Wade Huisman. Behind the top two, Brandon Buysse, Tim Ottenbacher and Mike Nichols rounded out the top five. Visit www.casinospeedway.com to keep up with happenings about the track over the off-season.
