Title: Peoria Speedway - 9/24 Results Post by LMR on 09/25/11 at 1:40pm Peoria Speedway September 24, 2011 ________________________________________ Feger races to second straight Jon Hamiltom Memorial win at Peoria Speedway Peoria PR PEORIA, Ill. (September 24) - Jason Feger raced to his 2nd straight “Jon Hamilton Memorial/Illinois State Championship” Saturday night at Peoria Speedway, leading all 100 laps for the $5,000 win. Feger started on the outside of row 1 and out-gunned pole sitter Billy Drake on the first lap using the high side of the track to take the lead. The caution flew immediately for a spinning Mike Mullvain with just one lap in the books. On the re-start, Donny Walden drove past Drake on the low side until Drake took 2nd back on lap 4. Walden challenged Feger as the duo approached lapped traffic on lap 10, but had Dennis Erb, Jr. to contend with and Erb took 2nd on lap 14. Walden passed Erb back on lap 18 but Erb re-gained 2nd the next lap. By lap 35, Feger had a 4 second lead erased by Walden, who brought out the 2nd caution on lap 36 as he stopped on the back stretch. Frank Heckenast, Jr. had moved into 3rd and began challenging Erb for 2nd on lap 40 using the high side of the tack. Feger again stretched his lead to 3 seconds until a lap 54 caution for debris bunched the field back up. On the re-start, Feger and Erb ran 1-2, but the action was heating up behind them as 4-time Illinois State Champion Todd Bennett began challenging Heckenast for 3rd on lap 57. Over the next 16 laps, Bennett and Heckenast thrilled the crowd with a classic high-low battle with Heckenast high and Bennett low, running dead-even every lap until a lap 73 caution for Drake slowed the action. Bennett was scored in 3rd on the ensuing re-start and the duo continued their battle again until the caution flew for a stalled Kevin Weaver in turn 2 on lap 88 as they chased Feger and Erb. On the re-start, the battle continued until Bennett made the pass stick on lap 95. As the white flag flew, Jason Jaggers pounded the front stretch wall, setting up a one lap dash. Feger took off, but Erb slipped in turn 1 and Bennett dove under Erb, but Erb slammed the door down the back stretch and hung on for 2nd as Feger took the win. Bennett ended up 3rd, followed by Heckenast and Mike Provenzano. “It sure feels good to win 2 in a row here”, said Feger. “You could run anywhere on this track, and I was really good in the middle getting by those lapped cars. I definitely did not want to see that last caution, but we were able to hang on.” Tommy Duncan won his first UMP Modified feature of the year and donated $200 of his winners’ share to St, Jude in honor of Hamilton in a slam-bang, caution-filled race. Jason Wagner, Donovan Lodge, Mark Johnson and AJ May completed the top 5. “It’s good to finally get a win”, Duncan said in victory lane. “I want to donate $200 of our winners’ share back to St. Jude in honor of our good buddy Jon Hamilton, who we miss a lot.” UMP National points leader Nate Zimmer led flag-to-flag in the Street Stock State Championship, all but wrapping up the title for the Mattoon resident. Wally Zander, Jamie Balenseifen, 15th starting Chuck Barnes, Jr, and BJ Deal rounded out the top 5. Kenny Butterfield sewed up the UMP National Championship in the Hornet division with his 25th win of the year in dominating style. In the Illinois Lightning Sprint division, Austin Archdale inherited the lead on the last lap from race long leader Billy Brickely, who slowed with mechanical woes on the last lap after leading the entire race. The season concludes at Peoria Speedway next Saturday, October 1 with the running of the Al Archdale, Jr. Memorial for the Mini-Sprints paying $1,500 to-win. 600 CC micro sprints, Mod Lights and Hornets will also be in action.
