Title: Wayne County Speedway - 10/8 Results Post by LMR on 10/09/11 at 10:33pm Wayne County Speedway October 8, 2011 ________________________________________ Berner blasts to Topless Super Late Model win at Wayne County Speedway by Ryan Pearson Orrville, Ohio (October 8) Under beautiful skies officials at WCS swung open the gates for the seasons curtain call. With the pits packed with nearly 140 cars the fans were treated to door handle to door handle racing in all divisions. Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and Midas Service Center of Medina, Ohio sponsored the evening’s action. To give the fans a bird’s eye view of their favorite drivers the Super Late Models took off their roofs. It was Massillon, Ohio’s Mark Gardiner who took the early lead ahead of Keith Berner, Brad Malcuit, Ryan Missler and Cody Parker. Gardiner pulled away from the field but Berner quickly reeled him back in. On lap four Berner began peeking under Gardiner but Gardiner held him off. By lap six Berner turned under Gardiner and at the start and finish line took the lead by a nose. By lap seven Doug Drown was working his way through traffic passing several cars running the high side, at this point he made it up to tenth. At the front of the pack Berner stretched his lead to a half of straight away ahead of Gardiner and Shane McLoughlin. With two laps remaining Berner held a comfortable lead but McLoughlin closed in on Gardiner. With the white flag waving Gardiner still held second place over McLoughlin as they entered turn three Gardiner approached a lapped car. McLoughlin jumped under Gardiner pinning Gardiner behind the lapped car and McLoughlin took the position as they raced off turn four. Taking the win was Berner, he was followed by McLoughlin, Gardiner, Malcuit and eighteenth starting Doug Drown. Winning heat races were Malcuit, Missler, Parker and McLoughlin. Rick Bond and Doug Drown were B-Main winners. In the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series Millersburg, Ohio Rob Chaney jumped out to the early lead but before the first lap was completed the caution flag flew for a pile up in turn one resulting in Bryce Dickson, Aaron Middaugh and Jason Soudrette going on the hook and not being able to return to the racing action. When the racing resumed Chaney powered to the lead over Dustin Smith, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Justin Grant. On lap four Smith dives under Chaney in turn one and comes out of turn two with the lead. Chaney closed on Smith’s bumper and began to apply heavy pressure to the leader. On lap nine Grant slipped past Haudenschild for third and closed in on Chaney who was running second. By lap twelve the battle for second was nearly a three car race as Chaney held second but Grant and Haudenschild were on Chaney‘s bumper. The red flag would be displayed for the Dallas Hewitt who flipped in turn four. Kory Crabtree also was involved and was not able to continue. On the restart Haudenschild spun and made contact with the infield tire while he ran third. On lap twenty Chaney was still digging and closed on the leader but Smith held a narrow advantage. At the finish line it was Russiaville, Indiana’s Smith who took the win ahead of Chaney, Iona, California’s Grant, Wooster, Ohio’s Mumaw and Fenton, Michigan’s Steve Irwin who started sixteenth. Heat race winners were Hewitt, Chaney, Smith and Haudenschild. Chad Wilson won the B-Main. “Oh, man that was a blast. We have came so close so many times with several second and third place finishes. I am so happy to finally get one” stated and ecstatic Smith in victory lane. “I am just happy for the Lees Hydraulic team, they came to me in late June put me in the car and it has been nothing but fun. “ In the Tri-State Modifieds Jesse Wisecarver and Larry Kugel led the field down to the green flag. It was Kugel who jumped out to a narrow lead using the highside to clear Wisecarver. During the early stages Kugel held the point but Wisecarver was close in tow. By lap six Anthony Kinkade pulled into the mix making the race for the lead a three way battle. In the middle stages Wisecarver ducked under Kugel as they came off turn four and they dragged raced down the front stretch; Wisecarver barely nipped Kugel at the line to take the lead. Kugel wouldn’t give up and the leaders raced side by side for the next lap. Wisecarver pulled away and maintained the lead. After a slew of cautions the racing would resumed Wisecarver still held the lead. Kinkade began pressing Kugel for second place and was able to slip past on lap twelve. At the checkered flag it was Wisecarver taking the win. He also collected an additional $100 for being the highest finishing topless modified. Kinkade, Kugel, Rex Slaughter and Mark Dickson rounded out the top five. Nathan Looney won the B-Main. The rule book was tossed out in the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stock division and we let ‘em race. It was Ed Leasure powering to the front ahead of Steve White, Jeremy Dickerson and Jeff Bucella. Leasure held the lead but the racing through the field had fans on the edge of their seat. All eyes were on seventieth starting Jesse Wisecarver cause by lap six he was up to third. On lap twelve Wisecarver pulled up on Leasure’s bumper trying to slip past. Leasure maintained the lead but Wisecarver pulled beside Leasure and the two raced door handle to door handle. Wisecarver used the cushion to slingshot his way around Leasure to take the lead. Taking the win it was Wisecarver just ahead of Leasure, White, Bruce Redman and Bob Daugherty . Wisecarver won the B-Main. It should also be noted that Wisecarver subbed in for Kyle Dickson who raced the heat. Wisecarver had to start on tail of B-Main, won that and started near rear of feature and won that to. Topless Super Late Models: Heat 1 1. Brad Malcuit 2. Ryan Marhkam 3. Charlie Duncan 4.
