Three Champions Crowned this Weekend at World of Outlaws World Finals

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2011) – Often imitated, never duplicated, the “The Greatest Show on Dirt” returns to The Dirt Track at Charlotte tomorrow through Saturday in front of a huge crowd for the fifth annual Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals presented by Tom’s Snacks, Coca-Cola and Nature’s Own.

The World Finals bring together dirt racing’s three premier divisions, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds, for three nights of on-track action that crowns their respective champions.

Below are the key story lines leading into the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals.

The World Finals Go Global

Race fans from all over the world will converge on the lightning-fast four-tenths-mile clay oval to watch their favorite drivers vying for a chance to visit Victory Lane. Thousands of fans from 47 states and four foreign countries including Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom will be in attendance to witness “The Greatest Show on Dirt.” Representatives from each state, province and country will wave their respective flags during a special ceremony as part of pre-race festivities on Saturday.

NASCAR Community Involved in Dirt Racing

A large portion of the NASCAR community in the Charlotte area comes out to The Dirt Track for the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals to watch the action and, in some cases, watch their race teams. Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart is deeply involved in sprint car racing, fielding World of Outlaws entries for former series champions Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz. Kasey Kahne is also a team owner, fielding entries for Joey Saldana, Cody Darrah, Brad Sweet and Paul McMahan. On the late model side, Clint Bowyer and Bobby Labonte are also involved in the dirt track world as team owners.

SPEED to Broadcast World of Outlaws Race Live

SPEED will broadcast live coverage of the World Finals Saturday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in high definition. The live broadcast will begin at 8 p.m. EDT and be highlighted by season-ending races that will decide this year’s champions in dirt racing’s three premier divisions, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds.

Tight Points Battle in World of Outlaws Late Model Series

The battle for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship will come down to the wire this weekend at the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals as just 14 points separate two-time defending champion Josh Richards from current points leader Rick Eckert. While Richards just claimed his ninth win of the season in the Late Model Showdown on Oct. 12 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Eckert has been the king of consistency, keeping him at the top of the standings.

Jason Meyers Set to Wrap Up Second Consecutive Championship

Jason Meyers is looking to wrap up the season with his second-consecutive World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship at The Dirt Track. Meyers, with nine wins on the season, has built up a 264-point lead over Tony Stewart Racing’s Donny Schatz who is in a close battle with teammate Steve Kinser for the second place spot in the standings.

Big-Block Modifieds Back for Second Year at World Finals

After a successful invasion of the World Finals last year, the Big-Block Modifieds of the Super DIRTcar Series will return to The Dirt Track to end their season at the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals. Defending series champion Matt Sheppard will have some climbing to do, trailing points leader Billy Decker by 53 points. One year ago, Sheppard, from Waterloo, N.Y., entered the open-wheel division’s inaugural World Finals appearance with a 74-point lead in the standings and fought off competitors to secure his first-ever title.

NDRA Modz “Road Show” Feature Race on Thursday

In addition to practice and qualifying on Thursday for the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals, the modifieds of the NDRA Modz “Road Show” presented by Roush Yates Performance Parts will compete in their final race of the season. The 30-lap feature was rescheduled from Oct. 12, due to weather. Fans can bring in their ticket stub from the Oct. 12 race and get a discount on their Thursday ticket.

The Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals begin tomorrow with Kellogg’s Qualifying Night, continue Friday with a full slate of feature races and conclude Saturday with the season finales carried live, nationally on SPEED.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. tomorrow, with opening ceremonies scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, gates open at 3 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 4:45 p.m. each day.

Adult tickets are just $20 for tomorrow and $39 each day for Friday and Saturday. Tickets for children 12 and under are just $10 on Thursday and $15 each day for Friday and Saturday. Fans can also upgrade their ticket to include a pit pass for just $15 each day.
