Title: Hilltop Speedway Awards Banquet honors Track Champions Post by LMR on 11/10/11 at 1:16am FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 9, 2011 ________________________________________ HILLTOP SPEEDWAY HANDS OUT 2011 AWARDS by Mike Swanger MILLERSBURG, Ohio - The final event of the 2011 racing season for Hilltop Speedway was held Saturday, November 5th at the Pavilion at the Lake in Coshocton with nearly 200 in attendance. Following Happy Hour and the delicious meal, owner/promoter Jesse Wardell thanked everyone for their support and that some improvements to the Holmes County speedplant were in line before opening day in 2012. The King of the Holmes Tire Late Models this year was Newark’s Steve Prince as he claimed the crown with 455 points for his first Hilltop Championship. For the second year in a row, Mansfield’s Dave Hornikel came in second with 417 points. A very close battle for third in the points battle saw just 2 points separate third from fifth as Wayne Maffett Jr. (403) edge out Jason Flory (402), and Keith Tish (401). Filling out the top 10 was Kristin Flory (377), Norm Aronhalt (369), George Lee (365), Tom Baker (326) and Charlie Duncan (325). The biggest margin for a track championship this year was in the Tri State Modifieds as Kevin Morehouse of Hanover used his 7 feature wins to claim his second (2006) Hilltop championship with 484 points. Newark’s Robin Duston was the runner-up with 413 points. Third and fourth place drivers Matt Samples (394) and Norm Aronhalt (392) both recorded their third straight year in the top 10 while Rick Mardis (361) made it his second year in a row in the top 10 by finishing 5th. The rest of the top ten was filled in by Darrick Hubbard (359), Rory Reed (358), Vic Hottinger (354), Larry Kugel (305) and Jeff Dovenbarger (298). After finishing ninth in 2009 and fifth last year, Mt. Vernon’s Kenny Daughriety Jr. climbed to the top of the ‘Hill’ to capture his first Street Stock championship with 442 markers. Warsaw’s John Wilson took the runner-up spot for the second season in a row with 422 points, just two ahead of Bob Chilcote, who scored his third straight year of being in the top ten. Brandon Craver (393) and Joey Spearman (370) rounded out the top five as Bob Daugherty (355), Robert Smith (340), Todd Swim (324), Brandon Gardner (321) and David Giaugue (261), his third straight top 10, filled out the rest of the top 10. Sunbury’s Kevin Potts was the only driver able to repeat as track champion as he edged out son David by five points, 458 to 453, to win his second Atom’s Pest Control Truck crown. The Large family chalked up third through fifth place as Jack (439), John (390), and Steve (380) took those positions. The rest of the top 10 finished with Brad Phillips (341) in 6th as Jerry Gardner (323) was 7th and Rolly Heyder and Logan Brannon (282) tied for 8th followed by Mitch Caskey (275) in tenth. Gary Hensel Jr. of Wooster scored 500 points to squeeze out his 1st Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock championship by just 8 points over Shreve’s Steve Miller. One point, 448 to 447 points, was the difference between Dustin Daugherty and Terry Adkins for third and fourth with Chris Priebe’s 440 points good for fifth. Jerry Adkins was 6th with 426 points as Blaine Markey (417) and brother Kevin Markey (351) reached top ten awards for the third year in a row but were split up by Matt Kemp who finished 8th with 363 tallies. Taking 10th with 307 points was James Priebe. It was just the second year for the Mini Wedges at Hilltop Speedway and in his first year of competition, Mansfield’s Donovan Dickerson totaled 1433 points to get the Championship Trophy. Hannah Rose of Jeromesville was second wit 1345 points as Blake Morris has finished third both years as he had 1297 points, Taylor Huggins (1055), Triston Lillibridge (1007), and Josey Lillibridge (942) all finished in the top ten for the second year in a row also. seventh place went to Dillyn Wyer (700) as Philip Bubeck (533) was eighth as Livia Large (468) and Bryiant Worthy (450) rounded outh the top ten. Joey Spearman was awarded the Hilltop Speedway Rookie of the Year as Upside Down trophy’s went to Matt Samples, Jeff Dovenbarger and Virgil Eaches for their rollovers during the season.
