HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY UNVEILS ITS 2012 SCHEDULE

Hagerstown, Md. -- Hagerstown Speedway has unveiled its 2012 schedule of events, one that has various changes and special programs that should be interesting to both drivers and fans.

The season begins with the 27th Annual Race-A-Rama show at Hagerstown’s Valley Mall from February 29th to March 2nd. After a Community yard sale and swap meet and Tune and test session on March 17th, March 24th will be the first racing program of the season and featuring 25 laps for the late model championship series, Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman in 20-lap events, Ernie D’s pure stocks and hobby stocks in their first 15-lap point races.

With late models always being the premier division at the speedway, changes have been implemented for those drivers seeking to unseat defending champion Roy Deese Jr.

There will be no year end point fund, but instead, a significant different and much increased purse for each of the seven championship events with $2,000 to win and $200 to start. The double point races; Johnny Roberts Memorial and McBee/Hays Championship event, will pay $2500 to win and $250 to start.

Handicapping for heat race starting positions has been replaced with the PILL DRAW which will be drawn upon arrival at the pit gate. The first three finishers of each heat will redraw for feature starting positions. The winner from the previous point event will start no better than sixth, regardless of draw. Depending on number of cars qualified, a driver that draws a number higher than sixth will start with the number drawn. The speedway reserves the right to start any repeat winner further back.

The speedway’s standard point system will remain enforce but with drivers not qualifying for a feature being awarded 50 points. All drivers must take the green flag in a qualifying race to get credit for an attempt to qualify at each event. For those experiencing mechanical problems, tow money has also been increased.

The Easter Egg Race, Fire & Rescue Appreciation Night, Armed Forces Appreciation and Law Enforcement Appreciation are some of the special programs on those series nights. Members of these organizations will be admitted free with identification.

Besides the seven race championship series, late models will continue to compete in numerous specials throughout the season with the Lucas Oil Late Models having two dates on the schedule, April 21 for the 31st Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic and again on July 28th for the 31st Annual Conococheague. The World of Outlaw Late Models return this season on June 16th for a 50-lap event.

Late models also have two 35-lap Shootout Open events with Winchester Speedway on May 25th and again on July 14 with the 5th Annual Red Nininger Memorial. On June 2nd, the division will again entertain the second night of racing for the Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Speedweek Series. Finalized after the schedule printing, the All American Outlaws division will be joining the May 25th program for the Smokey Snellbaker Memorial event.

Many fans like the topless look and the 32nd Annual Ernie D’s Shorty Bowers/Bull Durham championship with $2,500 to win on Manitowoc Employee Night will showcase the late models less the roof.

Hagerstown also introduces Family Nights to the new schedule which will feature $5 admission and under 12 free for the programs of late model sportsman, pure stocks and hobby stocks, all of which are running with an increased purse.

There is Favorite Driver night, Cartoon night, an Elvis night (with Kevin Booth, Elvis Tribute Artist to appear) and even a Dukes night (with “Cooter” already scheduled). Fans will have chances to win special prizes and enjoy more than racing during each of these programs.

Breast Cancer Awareness Night on April 28th will feature the late model sportsman in the 17th Annual Richard “Boney” Bonebrake Tribute with the Steel Block Bandit series. The division also has two other notable events, the Hoosier Daddy on Dukes night and the Bill Bowman Tribute on Student Night, both paying $1,000 to win.

The World of Outlaw Sprint series will appear on Sunday May 20th in a program by SLS Promotions.

The sportsman, pure stocks, four cylinders and hobby stocks will again end their season with the Small Car Nationals on September 14-15.

The season comes to an end on October 27-28 with the Brawl in the Fall, featuring late models and big blocks running 50 laps and the 410 and 358 sprints each running 30 laps.

Other special events are the Hagerstown Fireman’s Bonanza Extravaganza on May 11-13, the 31st Annual Hub City Classic for the AMA motorcycles on July 7 and Monster Truck Jam July 20-22.

Other specials to compliment various nights are still in the works, but in any case, it looks to be another special year at Hagerstown Speedway.
