Title: Hilltop Speedway - 8/18 Results Post by LMR on 08/19/12 at 4:22pm Hilltop Speedway August 18, 2012 ________________________________________ LEE, DICKERSON, ST. JOHN & BATES REVISIT HILLTOP’S VICTORY LANE; HOTTINGER & LILLIBRIDGE 1st TIME WINNERS by Mike Swanger MILLERSBURG, OH (August 18) - Fans filled Hilltop Speedway to the brim Saturday night for Season Championship night as the Holmes Tire Late Model Championship was the only one that had not been decided when the night started as Charlie Duncan took a three point lead over JR Gentry as the night began and whoever finished ahead of the other would be the champ. The feature event rolled onto the track with heat winners George Lee and Wayne Maffett Jr. on the front row and Dash winner Dave Hornikel and quick timer Rick Bond in row two with the championship contenders side by side in row three. Loudonville’s Lee would blast into the lead with Maffett Jr. falling in behind but on lap three, Duncan stormed into second and applied the early pressure to Lee for the lead as Gentry ran sixth. On lap six, Gentry would pass a fading Hornikel for fifth and challenged Bond for fourth as Lee started to open up the gap on Duncan and Maffett Jr. With 10 laps to go, Gentry made the pass on Bond for third and then two laps later, Gentry slipped sideways and Bond bumped him to bring out the caution, which sent Bond to the tail and allowed Gentry to stay in fourth. With the green flag flying again on the restart, Duncan clipped a retaining tire that would affect the handling of his car which allowed Maffett Jr. back into second as Lee and his LSI, Cowen Truckline and Edge Racing Engines #61 would hightail his way to his 7th win of the year. Gentry was able to catch Duncan and the last two laps they were side by side as everyone was on their feet for the two title contenders and as they crossed the line, Gentry was about an inch in front of Duncan to claim the season championship as John Britsky took fifth. Matt Samples and Vic Hottinger brought the Raceday Photos Modified main to the green with Samples leading the way for the first three circuits before Hottinger shot by to take the lead. The Dresden driver and his Coshocton Trucking and Coyote Chassis #4h would maintain a steady 6 car length lead over Samples as he had to fight off challenges from dash winner Beau Bradley and fast qualifier Kevin Morehouse as Jimmy Smith was trying to move up out of fifth. They would finish in that order as Ryan West took sixth and locked up the points championship. Samples, Hottinger and Nathan Loney captured the heat wins as Josh Pyers topped the last chance race. Mansfield’s Jeremy Dickerson went flag to flag to win his sixth Street Stock feature of the season as Larry Jarrett pestered the Ohio Door & Sash, Imperial Truck & Repair and Lias Tire #44d early on before Dickerson increased his lead as the laps wore on. Josh Miller made a run on Jarrett late in the race but finished third ahead of John Wilson and Bob Chilcote. heat win went to Dickerson, Miller and Jarrett as Tom Ebert picked up the last chance win. Despite a first lap crash that ended his night, Kenny Daughriety Jr. had a big enough points cushion to claim his second straight championship at Hilltop. Last week’s Mini Stock winner, Moose Workman and Jerry Adkins started on the front row of their feature but Brett Adkins pulled into second behind Jerry Adkins at the drop of the green as Workman and Jason St. John dueled for third right behind the leaders. St John of Glenmont took third with four laps to go and then with two to go, Brett Adkins tried to pass Jerry Adkins on the front stretch and the two touch after Brett tagged the wall and sent Jerry spinning to the infield but was awarded first back as Brett was charged with the caution. On the restart, St, John powered past Jerry Adkins going into turn one and held on to put the Palmer Mechanical Contractors, Tobacco Hut and Finishline Auto Body & Towing #45 into victory lane for the third time this season. Jerry Adkins finished second with Workman third. Terry Adkins secured his points championship by finishing fourth ahead of Mark Adkins. Heat checkers went to Workman, Jerry and Mark Adkins. Warsaw’s Cole Lillibridge led all the way in the Bugs-R-Gone Truck feature to park his Chevy pick up in victory circle for the first time. Mitch Caskey and David Potts battled early on for second with Potts taking second and then John Large moved past Caskey at the halfway mark to claim third with Logan Brannon filling out the top five. Lillibridge, Caskey and David Potts won the heats. Kevin Potts secured his third straight Truck crown despite breaking while leading his heat race and not starting the feature. Hannah Rose set the pace for the first two laps of the Putt-N-Stuff Wedge feature before have mechanical woes and put the A & B Roofing Construction, Elliott’s Excavating and Coshocton Moose sponsored #500 of Destinie Bates into the lead and then the Coshocton driver held off Phil and Charity Bubeck to collect her fourth win of the season. Josey Lillibridge took fifth as Charity Bubeck and Cody Stillion won the heats. Although he had mechanical issues in the feature, Stillion won the points championship. The night ended with the Powder Puff races as Cheryl Britsky (lates), Amanda Wilson (mods), Shane Spearman (streets), Katie Thomas (mini stocks) and Ashley Potts (trucks) were the winners. Next Saturday, August 25 at 2 pm will be the Autocross for 4 and 6 cylinder cars, trucks and vans. Check out the website at www.hilltopspeedway.org for info for this event and the rest of the season.
