Title: Elkins Raceway - 9/14 Results Post by LMR on 09/16/12 at 9:52pm Elkins Raceway September 14, 2012 ________________________________________ McGill wins Festival 40 at Elkins Raceway KERENS, WV (September 15) - The 2012 season came to an end Friday night as the annual Festival race was held at Elkins Raceway. In the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models, Shane Hitt, Butch McGill, and Steve Booth grabbed heat checkers. After three attempts at green, (one being red flagged for Skip hare who rolled three times in turn two, thankfully was unhurt) McGill grabbed the point ahead of Jared Hawkins, Paul Wilmoth Jr., Charlie George and Steve Wilmoth. Then first yellow came out on lap two for John Parsons who looped his mount in turn two. Fighting handling problems Parsons got loose in turn four two circuits later. McGill, Hawkins, P. Wilmoth, S. Wilmoth and George were the top five. The next stoppage came on lap six when Booth, Billy Holbert, Jamie McCloud and Joel Krcelich got tangled up in turn four. Hawkins turned up the heat on McGill and ducked under him on go round 16, but couldn’t make the pass. Then yellow waved again on lap 18 when Jess Whitehair pulled into the infield and rolls to a stop near the edge of the track. McGill still was in command with Hawkins, P. Wilmoth, Tim Senic and Doug Horton now the top five. Wilmoth began to pressure Hawkins as he took the spot on lap 19. Wilmoth then closed in on McGill. By lap 25 Wilmoth pulled up to the quarter panel but couldn’t get any further. McGill driving the Jenkins Ford / High Lines Oversize Load Escorting #1MC captured his second straight and fifth Festival win. P. Wilmoth, Hawkins, Senic and Horton filled out the top five. Derek Rogers jumped to the lead from his pole position in the Budweiser EDGE crate Late Model feature with Tracie Sampson hot on his tail. Four yellows inn the first five circuits slowed action. Rogers continued to show the way, as Sampson stayed glued to his deck lid. Lap after lap the duo darted through the backmarkers. With just four go rounds to go, Sampson made his move and ducked under Rogers. They raced door to door and bumped together on lap 22. Sampson gained the slight advantage and pulled ahead. ‘The Root” would hold on for his first win since 2007. Sampson said in victory lane his ‘bought the car from Albany New York and borrowed Kenny Harris’ motor to race’ Rogers had to settle for second. Robert Cossell IV, Louie Krushansky and Corey Metheny rounded out the top five. The top two drivers in the point standings in the Miller’s Used Cars Modifieds raced side by side for the first half of the feature. Phil Jeffries snagged the front spot at the drop of the green with Brent Trimble in hot pursuit. Running door to door the duo zipped around the 3/8 mile track. Jeffries held the advantage until lap six when Trimble nosed ahead. The duel ended on lap 13 when Jeffries went off the back chute coming to a stop at the pit exit in turn one. Trimble then pulled away for his fifth checkerboard. When the H & R Block / David Stanley & Consultants #1B crossed the stripe, second place Dylan Shafer was midway down the backchute. Matt Chenoweth, Mike Murphy (in Bill Vandevender’s #9) and Cooter Thorne completed the top five. In the Valley Supply Street Stocks, Randy Bohan launched to the front and never looked back. Bohan fended off James Nelson early, then a late charge from Jim Byers to notch his third trip to victory lane. Marty Spade, Jim Byers, Shawn Davis, and Nelson crossed second through fifth. Kaitlyn Frazier won the very exciting Mini Wedges feature as four karts ran nearly four wide. Frazier finished ahead of Logan Hitt, Hayden Jacobs, Abby Watson and Alec Frazier.
