Title: October 17, 2012 - Race News and Notes Post by LMR on 10/17/12 at 11:53pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 17, 2012 ________________________________________ THIS WEEK’S RACE NEWS AND NOTES The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series wraps up the 2012 season... this weekend at Portsmouth Raceway Park with the running of the 32nd Annual RED BUCK Dirt Track World Championship - Featuring "Borrowed Blue". The Newport Nightmare, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN and his supporting cast will be celebrating their second consecutive LOLMDS National Championship. Owens heads into the weekend without any points pressure, although he's working hard to take the 50K back to Newport and add to his list of accomplishments in dirt late model racing. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA will enter this weekend's event with the Quarter Master Rookie of the Year title in hand. The Clint Boyer Racing team, sponsored by Georgia Boot, will be celebrating a great season and marching through the competition, trying to get their hands on the 50K first place prize. In the previous 31 events there have been 22 different drivers to capture the event. Dating back to the inaugural running in 1981, there have been five drivers to win the prestigious event more than once. Hall of Famer - Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN leads the way with five wins. Lucas Oil Acquires Midwest Latemodel Racing Association… adding to an impressive line-up of racing series operated under the Lucas Oil banner, company officials today announced the acquisition of the Midwest Latemodel Racing Association, better known as the MLRA. Lucas Oil had been the title sponsor for the series for several years, but will now own and operate MLRA from the offices of its Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Since 1998, the Lucas Oil MLRA has been a regional series under the management team of Harriett and Allen “Cowboy” Chancellor. Beginning in November the sanctioning body will be run by Dan Robinson, who will add the title “series director” to his current role as general manager of the Lucas Oil Speedway, also know as the “Diamond of the Dirt Tracks”. The highly popular series has drawn up to 8,000 spectators to its action-packed races. While the Lucas Oil MLRA schedule included several yearly stops at the Lucas-owned Speedway, series competitors also hit the dirt bullrings in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and other parts of Missouri. The series is getting set for its big 2012 season finale on October 19 and 20 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas in conjunction with the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at nearby Kansas Speedway. The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Model tour... will host their 2012 season finale this Saturday, October 20th at Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) with the 6th Annual COMP Cams Mid-South Dirt Track Championship presented by Driven Racing Oil. The event, which was originally slated to pay $2,000-to-win/$400 to start has seen $2,000 added to the total purse. The event will now pay $3,000-to-win/$400-to-start. As an added element of excitement, the CCSDS Championship will literally come down to the final lap of the final event as Jon Mitchell currently leads the standings by just eight markers over defending champion, Brandon Smith. The 6th Annual COMP Cams Dirt Track Championship presented by Driven Racing Oil will decided the coveted title. Joining the top two drivers in points will be a host of touring and local drivers. Jimmy Huffman with Huffman Motorsports has posted a $200 bonus for the highest finishing Crate Late Model/Riverside Legal Weekly Racing Series Late Model. Competitors expected include Kyle Beard, Jon Kirby, Chandler Petty, Kenneth Jackson, Keith Lawson, Todd Hall, Curtis Cook, TJ Hughes, Dillon Knight, Ricky Vandergriff, and more. Roaring Knob set to host Super Nationals II this weekend… After three weeks since the last event, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will resume action this weekend (October 19-20) at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. The “Super Nationals II” will mark the next to last event on the 2012 slate, which will conclude the following weekend (October 26-27) at Lernerville Speedway for the “Steel City Stampede”. This weekend will mark race #23 with qualifying, heat races, and the Pace Performance “Futures Cup” Trifecta Race #3 on Friday night followed by the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash, last chance B mains, the $3,000 to-win A feature, $1,200 to-win B feature, and a $500 to-win C feature, if necessary on Saturday night. The B feature for the first 24 non-qualifiers features a regular $1,200 to-win Northeast Touring payoff with $150 to-start. |
