William Thomas Takes SAS Racing Series 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorian at TST

SAS Media
EASTABOGA, AL (July 27) - The Southern All Star Racing Series would makes its second visit of the 2013 season to Talladega Short Track on Saturday evening for the 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorial event and William Thomas of Phenix City, AL would drive to the victory in an event that saw four different race leaders. Thomas would take the win in the Austin Trucking/J.W. Miller Land and Timber/Alexander Industrial Services/LSK sponsored #a19 Barry Wright Race Car powered by a brand new CT525 crate engine.

The victory for Thomas, 26 years of age, was his third career win with the Southern All Star Racing Series, with his last SAS victory coming at Talladega Short Track on May 5, 2012. The win by Thomas also tabbed him as the ninth different winner in twelve Southern All Star Racing Series events that have been contested so far in 2013.

Polesitter Dylan Ames of Harvest, AL would lead the opening two circuits of the 16th Annual Michael Head, Jr. before Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, who had won the previous four SAS events at TST, would take the lead away from Ames on lap 3. Weaver would hold the top spot until Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL would track down Weaver and snatch the lead away from Weaver when Weaver would get held up by a slower machine attempting to exit the race surface. Hiett would hold the top spot and look to be on his way to his first-ever SAS victory, but William Thomas would have a different idea and would battle with Hiett in the late stages of the event, eventually making the winning pass as the lead duo were prepared to take the white flag and Thomas would hold off Hiett for the race victory. Hiett would finish in the second position, while Weaver would settle for the third position. Tim Roszell of Anniston, AL would score the fourth position in the finishing order, with series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN finishing in the final position in the top five.

The remainder of the top ten finishers in the Michael Head, Jr. Memorial would be Dylan Ames, Tim Busha of Boaz, AL, Logan Yates of Lineville, AL, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, and Bret Holmes of Munford, AL. The 40 lap, $4,000 to win event went caution-free and took just a tick over 14 minutes to complete.
