KASEY HALL WINS FORT PAYNE MOTOR SPEEDWAY CRATE LM CHAMPIONSHIP

by Steve Hixson
FORT PAYNE, AL (August 17) -- Earning the moniker NO RAIN FORT PAYNE, for the past four weeks again Saturday night with all other tracks getting rained out, Fort Payne Motor Speedway forged ahead despite cloudy over-cast conditions all day Saturday, with the planned Crate Late Model Championship 40 race. With twenty-one (21) race-teams signed in for the $2,000 to-WIN "A" Main event, local racer Kasey Hall of nearby Rainesville, Alabama held strong through a barrage of cautions leading flag to flag the 40-lap affair. Super Late Model standout Elbert McCullough of Cedar Bluff, AL, piloting his son Austin's racecar stayed with Hall for most of the race, that was stalled at the halfway point over and over as caution plagued the field. Cleveland, TN's Jimmy Elliott salvaged a third place finish behind McCullough after Todd Morrow, Marty May and current FPMS Crate LM points leader Lucas Burns fell out due to attrition. Kyle May of Pisgah, AL was able to come back and finish fourth after getting caught up in a late race restart skirmish. National Late Model Hall of Famer Red Farmer's grandson Lee Burdett of Huey Town, AL rounded out the Top 5. Hall thanked Chris Oliver of Oliver's Race Cars and Engines for putting him in his # 13 racecar since Hall's regular #42 Crate LM wasn't ready in time to race this weekend. Hall set fast time with a 15:005 lap yet came close to disaster on the initial start when the field went green and his left rear tire went down, stacking up the field behind him in turn two. Able to get the tire changed in the infield "hot-pit" and since no laps were completed, Hall rejoined in his original starting pole position. Fort Payne Motor Speedway is scheduled to host another big Super Late Model $3,000 to-WIN event in two weeks on Labor Day weekend (8/31), after next weekends points finale for all classes. The tracks web-site is www.FortPayneMotorSpeedway.com and they are available on Facebook.
