Title: Elkins Raceway - 8/30 Results Post by LMR on 08/31/13 at 3:30am Elkins Raceway August 30, 2013 _______________________________________ George, Lake, Vandergrift, Bittinger, Knepper and Hitt repeaters by Jeff Yost KERENS, WV (August 30) - It was the last Friday race of the season at the Elkins Raceway, and they saved the best for last. Starting the night off was the fogged out Fast 'N Friendly Pharmacy Modified feature from last week. Brent Trimble jumped to the lead and would stay there flag to flag, to add his eighth victory. Trimble piloting the H & R Block / Stutler racing Engines #1B bested, Phil Jeffries, Mike Murphy, Vic Vandergrift, and Bob Williams. Trimble received a $500 jack from Auto Zone and a tool bag from Advanced Auto. Also being made up was the Good Samaritan of Barbour County Mod Lites. Alan Knepper notched his third win driving the Evolution race cars / Knepper ATV #20. Tracy Fritter crossed in second. Beau Newlon, Mitch Ward and Ron Parrish were third through fifth. When the regular program got under way, Charlie George grabbed the point in the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models. Bob Gordon, Steve Wilmoth, Butch McGill and Billy Holbert quickly filled the top five. George set a torrid pace as the laps clicked off. By the half way mark George was comfortably out front with Gordon, Cody Hardesty (from eighth), Wilmoth and Jacob Hawkins (testing a new motor) were the top five. All eyes turned to Hardesty who began to close the gap, but needed a yellow flag. But it didn't wave. George in the Charlie's Auto #98 scored his third trip to victory lane in 2013. Hardesty had to settle for second. Gordon, Hawkins and Hobert completed the top five. In the Budweiser FASTRAK Late Models, Kyle Thomas and Michael Lake put on and old fashion duel. Thomas held the spot at the outset. Lake began to apply pressure as the front duo raced door to door around the 3/8 mile oval. The two continued their battle, as Lake got the advantage on lap nine. Now it was Thomas' turn to turn up the heat. Circuit after circuit the young veteran tried to rattle the young phenom. Lake, in the High Gear Speed Shop / Bobby Lake Motorsports #27 was able to fend off Thomas for his second checkerboard this year. Mike Thorne was third, Kris Southern fourth and Billy Brown rounded out the top five. The Fast 'N Friendly Pharmacy Modified finale, saw Vic Vandergrift snare the front spot at the drop of the green. Vandergrift in the Tri City Electrical / Vandergrift Auto #V16 would lead wire to wire enroute to his second win of the year. vandergrift held off a late charge from eighth starting Brent Trimble for the win. Trimble, Phil Jeffries, Mike Murphy and Matthew Chenoweth were second through fifth. Pole setter J P Tallman suffered a flat tire at the start of the Miller's Used Cars Street Stock feature, moving Scott Bittinger to the spot. Bittinger driving the Automotive Machine / Gold Digger Racing #29 would rive on for his fifth checkered flag this season. Johnny Singleton would cross in second. Teresa Vaughn followed in third. Tallman climbed back to fourth and Josh Mullenax was fifth. A scary moment occurred in the Good Samaritan of Barbour County Mod Lites as it looked like a Knepper and Knepper show. But Lynn was squeezed into the front straight guard rail flipping him sideways on the track. Luckily Lynn was unhurt. Alan would add his second win of the night and fourth overall as he lead flag to flag. Beau Newlon chased Knepper but could not make a serious bid. Tracy Fritter, Jeff Fornash and Ron Harris finished third through fifth. Logan Hitt drove away and hid, as he added his ninth checkerboard. Caleb Nolan, Levi Nolans, Ryan Gum and Kaitlyn Frazier followed Hitt across the stripe. That will conclude Friday night action at the Elkins Raceway for 2013. But stay tuned to the website (www/elkinsraceway.net) for the announcement of the date and details for the 49th Festival race.
