Junghans Chases to NCRA Belleville Late Model Victory

BELLEVILLE, Kansas (September 1) - Chase Junghans made the trip over from his Manhattan, Kansas home a victorious one as he wired the field in claiming the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model feature Labor Day Sunday night atop the famed Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas.

Junghans started on the pole for the fifteen lap feature and out ran outside front row starter Mike Wiarda into turn one to take the lead and quickly open a ten car length after the first lap. Wiarda, Segraves and Gary Gorby gave chase as Junghans was on a rail around the big half mile.

Lapped traffic came into play on lap six allowing Segraves to cut the deficit to six car lengths, but the night’s first caution flag would wave one lap later when Gorby would lose a tire in turn three and came to a stop at the bottom of the speedway.

On the restart it was Junghans out front with Wiarda alongside on the double file restart but Junghans once again throttled away to keep the lead.

Current tour point leader and G&G Dozer rookie of the year leader Jacob Magee, who restarted fourth, was looking to challenge Wiarda for the runner up position but his night would come to an end on lap nine when his motor expired, ending his night with a twelfth place finish.

The race stayed green as Magee was able to exit the track, only to see the final caution fall with five laps to go when Bryce Taylor cut a tire and rode against the guardrail entering turns one and two.

From then on there was no catching the leader as Junghans would cruise to his first tour victory of the season and second of his career. Wiarda would finish ten car lengths behind in second while Segraves, who picked up his only tour victory at the track back in July, finished third and gained ground in the championship point’s chase. G&G Dozer rookie of the year contender Jeremy Petty had a strong run, coming from his tenth starting position to finish fourth while Scott Phillips rounded out the top five.

Heat races for the fifteen car field were won by Junghans and Segraves.

The next and final 2013 event for the NCRA late model division will take place on Friday and Saturday night, September 20-21 as the tour heads to the Salina High Banks in Salina, Oklahoma in a co-sanctioned event with the MARS DIRTcar series.
