7th Annual Gumbo Nationals on October 3rd-5th at Greenville Speedway

GREENVILLE, Mississippi (10/02/13) – In just over 24 hours it will be time to set the gumbo on fire as the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals will come to life at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) on October 3rd-5th, 2013.

Over the past several years Wesley Washington and James Clolinger have worked diligently to transform Greenville Speedway into a showplace for racing in the area.  Whether it be work on the track surface, new walls in the corners for an added safety measure, or a host of other improvements their hard work has resulted in some of the best racing in the region during the past few years. 

The event continues to grow for 2013 with an event that is headlined by the Super Late Model pilots battling for a total purse boasting over $30,000 with the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) sanctioning the event for the second, straight year.

Chris Wall leads the MSCCS standings heading into the final event with Neil Baggett, Rick Rickman, BJ Robinson, David Breazeale, Chad Thrash, Brian Rickman, Mark Dodson, Leon Henderson, and Jeremy Broadus rounding out the current top ten in the standings.

A strong cast of competitors are expected to be on hand to look to upset the series regulars including Bub McCool, Jack Sullivan, Kyle Beard, Tyler Erb, Ray Moore, Robert Baker, Timothy Culp, Greg Fore, Ross Camponovo, Clay Fisher, Bo Gordon, Doug Showah, Mark Tice, Bubba Harrison, and many more.

Super Late Model pilots will compete in a $7,500-to-win/$700-to-start, 75 lap event.

On Thursday, October 3rd an Open Practice Session will be held.  Friday, October 4th will see qualifying as well as heat race action contested for the Super Late Model division.  Saturday night, October 5th will be headlined by a pair of b-main events and the 70 lap finale

$100 Entry Fee for Super Late Models

Joining the Super Late Models on the program will be the NeSmith Late Model Dirt Series, who will contest their own $5,000-to-win/$300 to start event with time trials and heat race action on Friday night, while b-mains and their finale will be held on Saturday night.

Also on the program for the weekend will be the Street Stocks battling for $1,200-to-win/$100-to-start, Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $1,200-to-win/$100-to-start and Mini Stocks competing for $600-to-win/$75-to-start.  Heat races for Open Wheel Modifieds, Mini Stocks, and Street Stocks will be held on Friday night, while Saturday's program will include b-mains and the big finales for the Open Wheel Modifieds, Mini Stocks, and Street Stocks.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society (ACS).  The track will be raffling off three coolers with various gifts inside each cooler.  Each cooler is valued at over $500 each with its contents.  Also one lucky fan will be able to win a Ride in the two-seater, Dirt Late Model through a raffle with five other rides to be auctioned.  The raffle tickets are $5 dollars each.  All proceeds from these raffles and auctions go to the local chapter of the ACS.

On Thursday evening gates open at 5pm with an Open Practice Session from 7pm to 10pm.  Friday night will find gates opening at 3pm with hot laps at 7pm racing starting at 7:30pm.  Saturday night will see gates opening at 3pm with hot laps at 5:30pm racing action starting at 6pm.

Grandstand admission is free on Thursday night.  Grandstand admission is $15 for adults on Friday night with senior citizen $10, and kids $5.  On Saturday night grandstand admission is $20 with senior citizen admission $15 and kids $5.

Pit admission on Thursday night is $15.  Friday night pit admission is $30 and Saturday night pit admission is $35.  Kids ages 6-14 years-of-age are $10 in the pits each night, and ages 5 & under are free.  Three day pit passes are available for $75.

GUMBO NATIONALS AT GREENVILLE SPEEDWAY UP NEXT FOR NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The $5,000-to-win 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS is up next for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.  The Gumbo Nationals will be Round 20 and the penultimate event of the 2013 season.  

The on track activities begin this Thursday night with an Open Practice.  On Friday night, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will compete in Qualifying and Heat Races to set the front half of the Gumbo Nationals starting field.  Saturday night action will begin with B-Main races to fill the back half of the field, followed by the $5,000-to-win 50-lap Gumbo Nationals.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will also be giving back to the community by bringing the “Ride For Life” two-seat dirt late model race car and fans will have the opportunity to bid at an auction on a six-lap ride at race speed around Greenville Speedway with one of five drivers.  All of the proceeds will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The five drivers that will donate their time and talent for the “Ride For Life” auction will be the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion and cancer survivor Chase Washington of Houlka, MS, defending Gumbo Nationals Champion Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year candidate Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS, 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series National Championship Runner-Up Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS, and the 11th-ranked NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series driver Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS.

Race fans will also have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for special drawings that includes a six-lap Ride For Life, or one of three special Fan Pack Coolers packed with over $500 worth of special prizes donated by local merchants.  The tickets will be on sale at the track on Friday and Saturday, and the auctions will be held on Saturday night.

The local chapter of the American Cancer Society is also selling Event Collector T-Shirts for $15 apiece for S-XL and $17 for 2X and 3X sizes.  The Raffle Tickets for the “Ride For Life” and the Cooler Fan Packs are currently on sale for $5.00 apiece.

The 2013 $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship could also be decided on Saturday at the Gumbo Nationals.  If point leader Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN leaves the Mississippi Delta on Saturday night with a 100-point lead, he will have clinched the title.

The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee known as the “Chattanooga Flash” has a 108-point lead over the second-place driver and Rookie of the Year point leader Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL.  Tait Davenport of Benton, KY is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings with Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, AL in fourth, and Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS in fifth.

The Gumbo Nationals will also feature Justin McRee of Cottondale, AL, who is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series points chase.  Seventh-place Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL and eighth-place Barrett are separated by just four points and the second spot in the Rookie of the Year points.

Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, who is ninth in the point standings will be at the Gumbo Nationals, as will be the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA who is tenth in the point standings and has two Greenville Speedway wins on his resume.

Former Gumbo Nationals winners Shaw and Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN will be looking for their second trophy, and Washington will be joined by the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship Runner-Up Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA at the Gumbo Nationals.

Along with Palasini and Jordan, the Greenville Speedway local favorites from the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division taking on the touring regulars in the Gumbo Nationals will Ryan Colby of Greenville, MS, David Carpenter of Greenwood, TN, Greg Fore of Greenville, MS, Kenny Carpenter of Cleveland, MS, Peter Hazard of Greenville, MS, and Peyton Wilkerson of Leland, MS.

The Open Practice on Thursday night will have the pit gate opening at 5 p.m. with the practice from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  On Friday night, the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Check-In from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m.

NEWMAN ADDED TO GREENVILLE RIDE FOR LIFE DRIVER LIST

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Former Gumbo Nationals Champion Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN has been added to the Greenville Speedway “Ride For Life” driver list this Saturday night to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.  The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Gumbo Nationals Championship will ride the Raffle Ticket winner.

The “Ride For Life” to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society will feature the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series two-seat dirt late model race car where race fans will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $5 apiece for a chance to take a six-lap ride at race speed around Greenville Speedway with Newman.

Race fans can purchase the $5 raffle tickets this Friday night and Saturday night at Greenville Speedway at the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals that will feature a 50-lap $5,000-to-win race for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.  There are also three Fan Pack Coolers fans will have a chance to win with the raffle ticket filled with cooler filled with $500 worth of special prizes donated by local merchants.

Newman will also be competing with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series in the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals with a dirt late race car dressed out in American Cancer Society graphics.

There will also be a special auction on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway where race fans can bid for a ride with one of five drivers.  All of the proceeds from the raffle ticket sales and the auction will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
