Dennis Franklin Will Become 2013 Champion at Carolina Clash Season Finale
2013 Carolina Clash "Countdown to the Cup Championship" by Roush Yates Performance Products & JE Pistons - Round #6  at Fayetteville Motor Speedway

by Mark Huey
FAYETTEVILLE, NC (October 16) - As soon as Dennis Franklin pays his entry fee for the season finale at Fayetteville Motor Speedway this coming Saturday night, he will be the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series champion for the third time in four years. That's all he has to do. However, knowing Franklin as most people do, he will conclude his racing season vying for the win in the final race of the season. He has dominated the Carolina Clash win column in 2013, including taking checkered-flags in four of the previous five series events in the Roush Yates Performance Products Countdown to the Cup Championship Chase. In all, Franklin is nearing the close to one of the most successful racing seasons in his stellar career, which includes numerous super late model and crate late model event victories and championships.

Franklin will be returning to the track where he captured his most recent victory, which was the ninth the season and third in a row for the second time this season.

The rest of the Carolina Clash point standings feature closely contested contests for second and sixth, among six different drivers. Thus, there is a lot on the line when it comes to the outcome of this final event.

Johnny Pursley holds a narrow two point lead over 5-time series champion Ricky Weeks, who would need to finish at least three spots ahead of Pursley to overtake the position, which determines a $2,500 payoff difference in the point standings. Tim Allen of Kannapolis, NC trails Weeks by just one point and is three back of Pursley.

Mike Gault has rebounded from his early chase problems and is currently poised to finish in the top five in the points, and trails Allen by 15 points.

There are three drivers in sixth, seventh and eighth who are only separated by two points. Current 2013 Rookie of the Year point leader Damon Kotke is tied with rookie competitor Kyle Pierce and is ahead of 2012 Rookie of the Year winner Michael Marlowe.

2012 series champion Luke Roffers is ninth in points with Ross Bailes in 10th. Both of these drivers did not attend the previous event and completed a partial schedule in 2013.

"The Wild Child" Damon Kotke of Louisburg, NC is one step closer to being named the 2013 Rookie of the Year for the Carolina Clash series. Kotke holds a 370-346 point lead over his point rival Kyle Pierce. Barring any major problems for Kotke, the lead should hold for him to become the series Rookie of the Year.

Thus, the stage is set for what should be a competitive final event of the season, with these championship contenders grouped with the Fayetteville regulars.

Fayetteville Motor Speedway will also be running the Super Street, Open Wheel Modified, Pure Stock, UCAR, and Late Models. Pit gate opens at 3:00pm and will be $30. Grandstands open at 4:00 and will be $20.

Carolina Clash drivers meeting will be at 6:00pm and the Fayetteville meeting is planned for 6:30.

On a sad note, the Carolina Clash would like to offer sincerest condolences to series regular Tim Allen of Kannapolis, NC, on the passing of his father Mr. Ben S. Allen, who passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Mr. Allen was a well-known figure in the pit areas of the Carolina Clash venues and was a friend to many.

The series will dedicate the Clash Bash finale to the memory of Mr. Ben Allen, where Tim Allen picked up his most recent series win back in March at the Ed Gibbons Memorial Race.
