Dennis Franklin Wins 42nd Annual Shrine 100 Race at Carolina Speedway

GASTONIA, NC (August 13) - Dennis Franklin inherited the race lead on lap 23 and sped away over the final 7 laps. Jonathan Davenport suffered a right rear flat tire while leading the 42 Annual Gaston County Carolina Speedway Shrine Race.

Davenport started on the front row and had to hold off Franklin while racing in traffic early in the event. JD raced his way to a comfortable lead in the field that experienced much attrition due to mechanical failures. Many of the top 10 cars fell out of the race at or before the halfway flags were thrown.

The most serious accident of the event occurred when Anthony Sanders, who was coming off of a tire change from a flat while running fourth. Sanders gathered the inside berm entering turn one and lost control of his #421 Big A's Custom Graphics, Brown's Roofing machine and went for a violent side over side flip that completely destroyed his car. Sanders was okay after the crash and was able to crack a smile in a post race interview.

The regular season has ended and Kennie Compton enters Saturday's event at Lancaster Super Speedway as the point leader by 1 point over Kyle Pierce as the seven race chase for the championship begins this weekend.

Official chase point standings will be release after the season finishes are audited on Thursday.

Kevin Wilson was the Safety-Kleen Hard Charger of the Race, advancing 14 spots from his 22 starting position to finish 8th.
