Three track titles on the line this Friday
Season Championship Night at Davenport Speedway

DAVENPORT, IA (August 20) – Three of the five 2014 track championships at the Davenport Speedway, will be determined this Friday, August 22nd.

Again this season, the closest point battle is in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified division. Four drivers have a mathematical chance to win the title. Point leader Doug Crampton gained some breathing room with a victory last Friday. The Rock Island driver has nine point lead over Mitch Morris of McCausland and an eleven point advantage over Chris Zogg of New Liberty. Tony VonDresky is in fourth, 25 points behind the leader, going into the final race.

One class where there is little doubt who the champion will be is the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Justin Kay of Wheatland, has already clinched his second straight title in the late model class. The battle in the late model standings is for second through fifth position. Nate Bueseling is trying to hold off Todd Malmstrom, Mike Zemo Jr., and Matt Ryan for the second spot.

Donnie Louck of Stockton has seen his once sizeable point lead in the Koehler Electric Street Stock class whittled down to 13 points. Louck needs a top ten finish in this week’s feature to guaranteee his first track championship at Davenport. Cary Brown of Davenport is second in points, with Cord Williams a distant third.

The second season for the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods at the Davenport Speedway has been much like the first. Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Ill., scored two feature wins early this season, to sit atop the point standings. Bryce won twice last Friday to clinch his second straight track championship. Joe Grant of Fulton, leads the battle for second over Jake Morris and Doug Burkhead.

Brandon Dahl of Blue Grass, needs only to start Friday’s feature to claim the title in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division. Going into the final race, there is a tie for second place. Andy Loy and Jake Benischek each have 450 points.

To add a little flavor to Season Championship Night, the point leader in each class will have the option of taking the “Back Row Challenge” for extra money, if they win.

The top ten in each class will be lined-up for their feature by points, provided they start their heat race. All the racing action will be on the quarter-mile dirt oval.

The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa. Pit gates open at 4:30pm, the grandstand at 5:00pm, with hotlaps at 6:30 and racing at 7:00pm.
