Title: Warren Oldfield claims thriller in Late Model action at Bunbury Post by LMR on 03/25/15 at 12:05pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 25, 2015 _______________________________________ Warren Oldfield claims thriller in Late Model action at Bunbury DTN Media BUNBURY, W.A. (March 21) - Warren Oldfield claimed a dramatic feature win last weekend at QUIT Bunbury Speedway in a race that had more twists and turns than an episode of ‘The Soprano’s’. Oldfield started out of position three, behind the front row of Brad Blake and Marc Giancola, who, from the time the green flag dropped, went at it hammer and tongs. The leading duo raced side by side for a number of laps before Giancola had a moment and almost upended his machine. This allowed Oldfield to show his nose and end up passing Giancola, the top three pulling away as they continued their battle. Lap after lap the leading trio fought it out, Oldfield poking his nose under the leading Blake and closely pursued by Giancola. They moved into lapped traffic when an unfortunate incident saw the leader Blake, who had led from the drop of the flag to lap twelve, was left with nowhere to go after Nat Muir spun in front of him. Blake was out of the race, while Muir suffered extensive damage also, enough to possibly end his season after recently replacing the whole front clip after his previous meeting at Bunbury. With eighteen to go the restart order saw Oldfield leading Giancola, Paul Stubber (from position nine) and Matt Goodlad. The restart saw both Stubber and then Jeremy Hale respectively spin and keep going, the order with thirteen to go seeing Oldfield leading Giancola and Goodlad while fourth placed Alec Melvin was half a lap behind the leading trio as he battled with Stubber and Dean King. Suddenly Giancola too found himself spinning, heading infield, the green lights remaining on, with Goodlad now in second and Melvin inheriting third. With eight to go Stubber spun again, with nine cars for the restart, then with twenty seven laps complete he hit the fence, causing the final restart with eight cars left to contest the final three laps. Once again the race resumed and the order remained unchanged, Oldfield recording another win ahead of Goodlad and the impressive Alec Melvin in his first podium finish in Late Model Sedans. Courtesy of his podium finish Melvin also received the Speed Torque All Star $100 bonus. The Speed Torque All Stars series was won by Jeff Rogers on 54 points followed by Nat Muir on 52 points and Morgan Melvin also on 52, Nat Muir getting second on count back of highest positions. Jay Cardy did enough during the night to secure the win in the Cleanaway QUIT Bunbury Late Model Track Championship, winning by seventy one points over Jeff Rogers, with Michael Holmes coming home third overall. Earlier in the night Brad Blake set the tone straight away by claiming the opening heat while the second heat was an impressive win to Nat Muir. Ryan Halliday was not happy in this one after a passing move by another competitor saw him in the turn three wall, ending his night. Heat three was a huge win to Jeremy Hale, while the final heat went to Oldfield. Craig Vosbergen’s night ended early in this one after he had pinion drive failure in his diff. The A Dash was taken out by Brad Blake while Jay Cardy broke an axle, managing to later limp his machine across the line to start the feature race and secure the Track Championship. The B Dash went to Paul Stubber. Late Models will again be in action this weekend as they return to the high banks of the Perth Motorplex, so stay tuned for a full nomination list to be released shortly.
