Title: Waycross, GA Double-Header Up Next For NeSmith Late Models Post by LMR on 04/07/15 at 12:02pm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 7, 2015 _______________________________________ Waycross, GA Double-Header Up Next For NeSmith Late Models by Roby Helm CARTERSVILLE, GA – A Double Racing Weekend at Waycross Motor Speedway in Waycross, GA on April 10 and April 11 is next up for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division. Rounds 6 and 7 will play a key role in shaping the contenders for the 2015 NeSmith Late Model National Championship battle. The April 10 race will be 40 laps and $2,000-to-win, and the April 11 race will be 50 laps and $2,500-to-win. The NeSmith Late Models will also reach an important milestone in the series’ 11-year history with the April 11 race in that it will be the 200th race since the series inception in 2005. After the first five events of the 2015 NeSmith Late Model season, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA finds himself in a familiar position for the second straight year – in the point lead with the defending and two-time NeSmith Late Model National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN right behind him in the second spot. Arthur has finished in the top five in four of the first five races, and won the $10,000 top prize in the non-points 10th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL on January 31. Arthur has accumulated 464 points, and has a 72-point advantage over Johnson going into the Waycross Motor Speedway Double Racing Weekend. Johnson may be in the second spot in the NeSmith Late Model point standings, but after recording a single-season record of eight wins last year, The Chattanooga Flash has gotten off to a sluggish start in the 2015 season. In the first five races, the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee has one top five finish and three top ten finishes to accumulate 392 points. The day before the 2015 NeSmith Late Model season began on January 28, the driver in the third spot of the point standings did not have any plans on running with the series. Ryan King of Seymour, TN had finished third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National point standings in 2012 and 2013, mainly competing at his home track, and not traveling much. When his home track decided to drop their NeSmith Weekly Late Model program for 2015, King wanted to still be involved with the series that had been good to him through point fund money and notoriety. King decided to give the NeSmith Tour a try, and he found out he could adapt very well to new tracks. With the first five races under his belt, King finds himself not only in the third spot of the point standings with 366 points after one top five finish and two top ten finishes, but he also leads an impressive group of drivers competing for the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Award. Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL is a former NeSmith Late Model Rookie of the Year, and after two wins last season, is looking for breakout year in 2015. Edge is currently fourth in the NeSmith point standings with 362 points after one top five finish and three top ten finishes in five races. Ryan Crane of Panama City, FL is fifth with 346 points and one top ten finish in five races, and is second in the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings. Cale Conley of Vienna, WV is currently sixth in the NeSmith Late Model points chase with 340 points after one top ten finish in five races. Conley will probably not be a championship contender with the NeSmith series in 2015 because of his day job. Conley’s full time job is driving the Tri-Star Motorsports Toyota in the NASCAR Xfinity Series where he is competing for Rookie of the Year. But whenever his NASCAR schedule permits, Conley has stated he will run with the NeSmith Late Model Tour. Cody Martin of Christiana, TN is seventh in the NeSmith Late Model point standings with 294 points with one top ten finish in five races. Martin is also third in the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings. Matt Henderson of Loudon, TN is eighth in the NeSmith Late Model points chase, and his theme song for the first five races of the 2015 season is that old Jerry Reed tune “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot, When You’re Not, You’re Not.” Henderson has 280 points after one win, two top five finishes, two top ten finishes, and one Fast Time Award. He is also fourth in the Rookie points. In the first two races of the 2015 season, Henderson had ignition troubles and missed both feature events. Henderson got that problem fixed and came back to finish fifth in the next race. In Round 4 at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA, Henderson swept the show with fast time, and a race win leading all 50 laps. The next night, Henderson missed the show after spinning while leading the B-Main race. A tough local contingent of drivers will be represented in the Waycross Motor Speedway Double Header for the NeSmith Late Models by several South Georgia racing families that include Hunter and Ryan Carter of Blackshear, GA, Stacey Roberts of Sylvester, GA and Steven Roberts of Jesup, GA, along with Ben and Jeremy Faircloth of Swainsboro, GA. Other Peach State favorites planning on mixing it up with the NeSmith Late Model regulars include Cecil Eunice of Blackshear, GA, Mallory Harvey of Baxley, GA, Damon Flowers of Hortense, GA, and Paul Jorgensen of Blackshear, GA. Waycross Motor Speedway is located at 2101 Knight Avenue (U.S. Highway 82), Waycross, GA 31501. For more information call 912-283-0900, or visit the track web site at www.wayxspeedway.blogspot.com.
