Billet Takes Late Model Checkers at SSP on Saturday Night

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 11) – Chase Billet of Dover claimed the victory in the BRC Late Models on York County Racing Club Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night. Jonestown’s Chris Derr took the checkers of the Street Stock 20 lapper. Steve Storrie of Spring Grove picked up the win in the 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature event. Etter’s Alex Updegraff won the Xtreme Stock Car 20 lapper. The 15-lap Road Warrior feature was won by Dallastown’s Ricky Weaver. Zakari Kitner of York Haven claimed the 12-lap Mini Van feature.

Cameron Benyou started on the pole position and grabbed the early lead over Drew Weisser in the 25-lap BRC Late Model feature. After the midway point of the race, Chase Billet moved past Benyou to take the top spot on lap 17. The next lap Billy Wampler moved into the runner-up position and set his sights on Billet. Billet was flawless and went on to take the checkers over Wampler. Justin Ehrhart finished third followed by Benyou in fourth. Heat race winner Charles Potts finished fifth. Randy Christine Jr. was the other heat race winner earlier in the evening.

Chris Derr grabbed the early lead of the 20-lap Street Stock feature from the front row. Last week’s winner Jim Palm Jr. trailed in the runner-up spot. Derr wired the field from start-to-finish, leading every lap and taking the win. Palm settled for second. Scott Thunberg avoided accidents and finished solidly in third. Jimmy Combs and Troy Myers finished fourth and fifth respectively. Palm Jr. and Derr were heat race victors.

The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event had front row starter Alex Updegraff lead the first lap with Bill Powelll taking the lead on the second lap. Updegraff regained the top spot on the next circuit and never looked back to record the victory. Brian Rehbain finished second with Jim Jacobs in third. Davey Nester and John Frye rounded out the top five. Donnie Broderick won the Madison House Hard Charger Award by finishing 8th after starting the race in the 20th position. Heat race winners were Bill Powell, Kirby Sites and Frye.

In the 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature, Zach Newlin grabbed the early lead from the pole. On the second circuit, Steve Storrie scooted by Newlin and set the pace en route to the victory by leading the final 19 laps. Newlin tried every part of the track to try to regain the lead, but had to settle for second place at the end. Colby Dice finished strong in third. Ken Duke and Randy Kaylor finished fourth and fifth respectively. Dice and Storrie won their respective heat races.

Ricky Weaver took the lead on the lap 2 of the Road Warrior 15 lapper and went on to take the victory over Tim Osheehan and Brandon Hedstrom. Daryl Sipe and Dennis Dorosz completed the top five. Wellman and Weaver Jr. were heat race winners.

Zakari Kitner lead from start to finish to win the 12-lap Mini Van race. John Kitner finished second, followed by Dennis Dorosz in third. Richard Wolfe and Daryl Kumo II rounded out the top five.
