Jimmy Mars Returns to Action at Farmer City; Blasts to Eighth in Illini 100 Finale

MENOMONIE, WISC (April 23) - For the first time in three months, the Mars Racing team returned to racing action on April 17-18 at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series once again presided over the annual 'Illini 100,' but this year's version of the two-day affair was split into two separate programs. On Friday night in the $6,000 to win opener, Jimmy Mars clicked off the fourth fastest lap in Group A during qualifying and later finished fifth in his loaded heat race after officials deemed he jumped the start. Following a third place effort in his B-Main, Jimmy unfortunately was forced to watch the 25-lap sprint from the stands after missing a transfer spot by one mere position.

The 'Illini 100' finale on Saturday evening at the 1/4-mile bullring boasted a hefty $15,000 top prize. Jimmy ran sixth in his heat race, but later grabbed the second transfer position through his B-Main. After rolling off from the inside of the tenth row in the 75-lap headliner, the Menomonie, Wisconsin ace drove past eleven competitors during the distance en route to a strong eighth place performance. Complete results from the 'Illini 100' weekend can be viewed online at www.woolms.com.

With a relatively light special event schedule across the country on April 24-25, Jimmy will take the opportunity to race close to home this weekend. The nearby Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin will play host to a weekly Late Model event on Friday night, while the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin will do the same on Saturday evening. Additional information on these two races can be accessed by clicking on www.redcedarspeedway.com and www.cedarlakespeedway.com.
