Title: Elkins Raceway - 5/22 Results Post by LMR on 05/24/15 at 12:43am Elkins Raceway May 23, 2015 _______________________________________ All new faces in victory lane at Elkins KERENS, WV (May 22) - A black cloud hovered over the Elkins Raceway Friday night threatening to end the evening at anytime. A early sprinkle only paused action. But a shower just as heat races were completed , halted racing for an hour and fifteen minutes. After the track was ran back in, it was lightning fast, clocking Supers in the 14.8’s On West Virginia Pools night, as they sponsored the Street Stock special. Jamie Keene and Bryan Mitchell grabbed prelim honors. Keene took command at the outset with Scott Bittinger, Mitchell, John Bender and Brad Harris quickly filling in the top five. Mitchell got by Bittinger and began to pressure Keene. On lap three, Mitchell made the successful bid for the lead. By lap five, Mitchell, Keene, Harris, Bender and Rick Knicely were the top five. Mitchell began to walk away from the field. At the crossed flags, Mitchell had amassed and full straight away advantage. Behind him Keene held off Bittinger circuit after circuit. But with the white flag flying, Bittinger took the spot. Mitchell driving the Wizard Race Cars / S T & E Environmental #M1 scored his first checkerboard of the season. Bittinger crossed in second. Harris, Chad McLean and John Tallman Jr. completed the top five. Keene got loose in turn four on the final lap dropping to seventh. Steve Wilmoth shot around Chuck Harper on the final turn to win heat one in the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models. Charlie George, cruised to his win. In the nightcap George blasted to the point with Wilmoth, Cody Hardesty, Tim Senic and Harper in tow. George smoothly drove the 3/8 mile lap after lap. Wilmoth slowly reeled George in. On lap 17, Wilmoth peeked under George, but that was as close as he got. George piloting the Charlie’s Auto Sales / Rich Mountain Surveying #98 notched his first victory of the year. S. Wilmoth would be a close second. Hardesty was third, Senic fourth and Paul Wilmoth Jr., was fifth. Proving that there is something to the old adage “racing is in my blood” Third generation driver Daniel Hill has had a second and two third place finishes in the Budweiser FASTRAK features at Elkins. After comfortably taking his heat, he was slowed only by two yellows in the finale. The son of Bobby and grandson of the late great Earl Hill, driving the Larry’s Western Shop / P D C Energy #8 parked in victory circle. Garrett Paugh, Aldon Butcher, C J Johnson and Chad Green were second through fifth. As the Performance Motors Modifieds feature began Dave Defibaugh again took command. Just as the three previous weeks. Randy Bohan and Phill Jeffries began to chase Defibaugh. Meanwhile sixth starting Brent Trimble, who had passed Defibaugh on the last lap three consecutive weeks for the win, moved forward. Trimble pressured Jeffries and took third on lap seven. Defibaugh continued to pace the field as Trimble motored to second on lap 12. But unlike the three races before, the luck was on Defibaugh’s side. The Bob’s Mini Mart / D & S Enterprises #77 finally got his checkerboard. Trimble had to settle for second. Bohan was third. Jeffries, and James Nelson were fourth and fifth. Trimble was named Leggett Refrigeration Hard Charger. After a very scary moment in the heat race for the Miller’s Used Cars Mod Lites, Dean Ward slipped over the embankment of turn one and the outside wheels caught. After at least barrel rolling eight times, Dean walked away without a scratch. In the feature, his son ‘14 track Champion, Mitch would lead flag to flag for his first win of the season. Beau Newlon, John Cogar, Logan Hitt would follow Ward to the line. The absolute, hands down, no question, edge of your seat, fist pumping, best race of this year. Maybe of any year, in any class. The A group of the B C T Construction Mini Wedges hand no less than seven to eight karts side by side, nose to tail the entire distance. Two, three and even four wide for the lead, it was anyone’s race. When the checkers fell, Haley Mahoney in the Brian Bulger / S & R Machine #H88 would claim her first career win. Garrett Jones, Paije Bragg, Kolbe Kimbrew and Braydon Beachler would be second through fifth. In the B group of the B C T Construction Mini Wedges, for the first time in three weeks, there was a repeat winner. And the only repeat winner in any class Friday night. Blake Runyon (opening night winner) in the Civil Environmental / TKS Construction #20 bested Abbie Hudler - Pennington, Kelsey Tincher, Madison Taylor and Pressley Wilt. This week, a moment to pause and thank our veterans who without their sacrifice, we would not enjoy the freedoms we do today. Also thanks to the fans who braved the delay. And special thanks to those drivers who helped to run in the track. (no names mentioned in fear of missing someone) This weeks is autograph and picture night presented by Darren’s Pizza Shack.
