Robert Gant Takes "Complete Cash" 8th Annual FireCracker 50 Victory

FORT PAYNE, AL (July 4) - The "FlatRock Flash" Robert Gant of Pisgah, Alabama scored the biggest win of his season Saturday night at his home track the Fort Payne Motor Speedway, by dominating the 8th annual: Complete Cash "FireCracker 50" Super Late Model event. An extra large crowd braved the possible bad weather to witness the Marvin Ford promoted unsanctioned event that hosted twenty (20) raceteams from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Gant put his familiar yellow # 22 "Carl Gregory Ford, Do or Die Hair Salon" sponsored masterSbilt / B&B Performance Engines Super Late Model on the pole clocking a 14:180 lap as one of the final cars to qualify, regulating Georgia's Aaron Ridley to second fastest overall. With an early green-flag due to impending weather, Gant took to the lead with two early cautions to slow the field. Gant's toughest weekly competitor at FPMS, Lucas Burns, ended his night early despite starting outside row two as a long green flag stint stretched the field. Third starting Josh Putnam of Florence, AL tried to keep pace with Gant but could only keep within a half a straight-away. A third late caution on lap 42 bunched the field but by that time Gant had lapped all but the fifth and sixth place cars of David Seibers and Kyle May, whom were knocked out of action after the final restart. Behind Gant at the checkers was Putnam, Ridley and a returning (to racing) Bo Shirley. Finishing in 5th but off the lead lap was Mario Gresham. Gant thanked the fans for coming out and his family and crew for working extra this week preparing a new UCRA Crate Late Model that also made its debut Saturday at Fort Payne.
